Hello!
Hello! I'm Emily. I am married and I have a young daughter. We are originally from the US and have been traveling for the past couple years and now we are living near Vancouver, BC. I love learning new things. I like doing projects with my daughter to help her learn about the world.
I am making continent boxes for my daughter, so I am hoping to swap postcards, magnets, coins, little flags, or any other small cultural items that others are interested in swapping. Anything that could help a child learn about your country would be great.
I will be delighted to receive anything that you take time and thought to prepare for me. :)
When possible, I would especially appreciate:
Postcards that show the place that you live. Landscapes, cities, buildings, maps, objects, famous art that comes from there, local animals/birds/plants, cultural pictures...anything that would help a kid learn a bit about the place where you live.
Local maps or brochures.
A small flag from your country.
Any small handicrafts or trinkets that represent where you are from.
Refrigerator magnets representing your state/province or country.
Childrens' books: stories by local authors or simple books that tell children about your country/region/city.
Stickers that are specific to your location.
Anything that represents special holidays or historical things or landmarks specific to your location.
Special foods or recipes that are traditional in your region.
Small, simple instruments that are traditional in your country, or CDs with music that is traditional in your region.
Some simple phrases written in your native language, with a translation and help so that we can pronounce them.
Coins or currency from your country (tiny amounts only!)
Small toys that are traditional in your country or region.
Samples of fabrics that are special or famous in your country or region, if there are any.
Costumes or clothing items that are traditional and represent your area.
Pictures of kids in traditional clothes in your area, or doing things that kids like to do in your area.
Traditional stories or tales that are told to children in your area.
Learning toys or educational materials.
Anything else you think we may like!
I will very happy with almost anything, but please do not send me:
Religious items with scriptures or to convert me to your religion.
Coffee or coffee flavored things.
Scary stuff, including zombie stuff.
I am particular about ingredients of things, so beauty products are probably best saved for someone else who will use them. Organic brands are usually ok.
Update - Although I planned to just swap cultural things for my daughter's continent boxes, I keep finding other swaps with different themes that I want to participate in. So, since not everything is about culture exchange, here are a list of some things that I like.
Organization stuff. I am not the best at organization, but I am always trying to improve. I like post-it notes. If you have any great organization or cleaning tips, I welcome those.
Things for my daughter. She loves: costumes--dressing up and pretending (to be princesses and other main characters and their friends, animals, planets, anything!); coloring; reading and hearing stories; art projects; princesses; duplo blocks; stickers; any kind of activities; hairclips with giant flowers; hats; learning about new things; play doh activities; pretend food; cooking and baking together. And so on.
