Hi!
I happily live with my husband in California. I am a librarian and I love to read, natch.
Arcade Fire and Wilco are my two loves. I am also a huge Alison Krauss and Emmylou Harris fan, but I do not like modern country. I tend to like female folksy singers, too. I am currently obsessed with She & Him (Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward.) Oh, and I like musicals as well.
Authors: Margaret Atwood, Cormac McCarthy, John Irving, Barbara Kingsolver, Roald Dahl, John Steinbeck, Louise Erdrich, John Cheever, Susan Orlean, Jhumpa Lahiri, Zadie Smith, Tolkein, Tom Wolfe, Alice Munro, Joan Didion, Jonathan Safran-Foer, Anne Lamott, Sandra Cisneros, and on and on and on.
Six Feet Under and Lost above all else. My husband and I really enjoy Mad Men as well.
I am a Craft Addict. I love all things sewing, quilting, patchwork, embroidery, weaving.
I love to buy fabric and I love all the popular designers (Amy Butler, Denyse Schmidt, cutesy Japanese fabric, reproduction 30's and 40's fabric, etc) as well as fabric from less-known designers. I tend to gravitate towards bright colors, which is strange because I tend to dress in neutrals and jeans, but I also appreciate the monochromatic neutral look. I guess I am expressing latent preferences that do not shine in my wardrobe. I currently have a love affair with the color red.
Sewing and quilting has introduced me to a whole new world. It has impacted the way I view the world. I find I value the handmade over the mass-produced. I love looking in thrift stores, collecting old Pyrex and tea towels. I am currently in the process of ridding my home of mass-produced quilts, pillowcases, curtains and throw pillows and replacing them with handmade items, whether by my own hand or a complete stranger from the thrift store. I love inventing stories about the provenance of these treasures!
buttons, sewing notions, fabric new and old (patterned and solids!), linen (natural color and earthy-tones), embroidery supplies, embroidered tea towels, anything handmade with love, herbal tea, dark, chocolate, vintage linens, vintage train cases, vintage Pyrex, vintage anything, photography, Boston Terriers, fog, cold weather, rainy days, thrift store finds, things with heritage, books old and new, craft books from the 1940's and 50's, child art, letters and correspondence (new and old), black and white photographs, ric-rac, craft kits, matryoshkas, polka dots.
milk chocolate, scrapbooking, food items past expiration date, artificial fruit-flavored things, rude behavior, BAD SWAPPERS!
