About Me

My name is Taidgh (pronounced tiger without the er) I'm 33. I live in the south-west of Ireland. I studied media and speak Mandarian Chinese (no I'm not Chinese, I just speak the language). I love photography especially old neglected photographs. My big passion is visual history.

I like to go for walks in the nearby park. It's filled with forests, a castle, mountains and lakes. If I'm lucky I can see red deer, eagles, and the ever elusive otter. Unfortunately I haven't seen any Okapi which is my favourite animal.

I'm a poet and write the occasional short story. I read a lot, listen to music and collect old postcards of my town. There aren't any markets or thrift shops here so I'm on Ebay and etsy a lot looking for a good buy. I prefer postcards with something written on it as it makes it more interesting. I was lucky to get a few cards from the early 1900s with correspondence by the same people even though it was by chance.

I'm a member of Postcrossing, IUOMA, and We Make Zines. Some of my favourite zines: Thoughtworm, BirdShit, Baby Beef, Toasty Cats and the Yellow Rake.

I love comic books though not the superhero type. Underground and independent comics are great. Favourite publishers are: Fantagraphics, Nobrow, SecretAcres, Drawn and Quarterly, and Topshelf. I enjoy reading Theo Ellsworth, Craig Thompson, Nate Beaty, and Magda Boreysza. These are my favourite anthologies: Black Eye, Meathaus, Cest bon Kultur, Rabid Rabbit, MOME, and the Ganzfeld.

Favorite Music

God is an Astronaut, Astra, Priestbird, Echoes of Yul, Rest, Pelican, An Autumn for Crippled Children, Jesu, Múm, Isis, The Manhattan Syndrome, And So I Watch You From Afar, Battles, My Dying Bride, Cathedral, Winter, Woods of Ypres, Boris, Anathema, The Melvins, Neurosis, Paradise Lost, Goatlord, The Samuel Jackson Five, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, King Crimson, Rose Kemp, Sleep, Acid King, Ghost, Earth ...

Things I Like

Drawings, lighthouses, stained glass, space exploration, anything surreal, dreams, perzines, zombies, dark humour, comic zines, cartoons like the brilliant Mind Games or Cat Soup, doodles, Mail Art, whales, otters, colour pencils, writing letters, poetry, self made cards, watercolours, blue, grey, and green. TV series: the Prisoner, Madmen, Charlie Jade, The Good Wife, The Wire, Luther, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Homeland (Season 1), Borgen.

My Zines

are a mix of poetry, writing, collage, drawings and sketches. A list of my zines: Cloud Monkey #1, Rocket Ghostship #1, The Teeth Complex #1, 7 Day Zine, Poetry Punch, Ghost City and First Lift Here.

Comment: Hello taidgh (Taidgh from Ireland). I got your package yesterday! Thank you so much for the aloe vera lip balm, little candle, fresh roll-on deodorant, calendula toothpaste, fair trade 70% trinitario chocolate bar, gold blend loose leaf tea box, organic almonds bag, interesting irish seaweed (dillisk/dulse and carrageen/irish moss for jellies, soups and stew), darker chocolate & brazils and apricots bar, cashew cookie bar, rhubarb & custard bar, Ireland postcard, your watercolor painting and your artistic little zines. Have a great mail day, maria das trouxas
Response: Hello Maria! I really enjoyed the swap and happy you liked your package! It was fun putting it together. I wanted to draw all over the box but was a little afraid it might not reach you if it was full of doodles. Thanks for the rating and happy swapping to you!

Comment: Wow, two minizines! Now I really feel like a slacker. I loved both, though I think ghostcity is my favorite of the two--I always enjoy a story, and that one seems especially suited to the small format. I also love what you did with the envelope--everything an inspiration to me in this my first zine swap!
Response: Happy to hear Eric! I think Ghostcity is the start of something. Sometimes I can't help myself and I have to doodle. A good place is on the envelope. I think the size of the mini-zine is great! Sometimes if you go bigger it seems a little more serious and tough to know what to do with all the space. The swap has inspired me to make zine making more of a habit - even doing one a month would be a start. Take care!

Comment: Ohmygosh, taidgh!!!! This was a truly amazing piece of mail art! I absolutely LOVE your style. I am going to cut the front and back of the envelope apart, and frame them. GORGEOUS work - so lively, whimsical and ultra cool. And thank you for the nice fall letter and the great poem. I have been t r y i n g to figure out how to write poetry, and just can't get the flow of it. So I think your poem will be framed with the two parts of your envelope too. THANK YOU again! I wish I could give you more than one star! :D
Response: Thanks Wanda for your kind comment! Glad you liked it and I had fun making it -it's important for me to have fun too! It's wonderful you want to frame it. Delighted! A little tip about poetry is to immerse yourself in it - read, experiment, and have fun with poetry. Simple is better and working on developing your own voice regularly helps too! Once again thanks for your comment! Have a great day ;)

Comment: It's beautiful and I love your name (I always thought if I had a boy I'd name him Taidgh because I heard it on the movie "The Field" and have loved it ever since.) Except nobody here would know how to pronounce it! :) I spent 10 weeks in Dublin and Clare in 1991, so I loved getting your Irish mail. I miss it there!
Response: You are very kind ;) Tadgh is a great character in the Field. It's nice to know that you picked up on that. Ireland has changed a lot since 1991 though we are still up for the craic. You can't change that. Have a wonderful Sunday ;)
