Description:

Are you a fan of folklore? Would you like to create (and receive) ATCs of creatures from folklore from around the world? Then welcome to the Folklore ATC series!

ATC #1 features Baba Yaga (AKA Ба́ба-яга́, Baba Jaga). Baba Yaga is a figure from Slavic folklore akin to a witch, but not quite the same. According to Andreas Johns, she is "a many-faceted figure, capable of inspiring researchers to see her as a Cloud, Moon, Death, Winter, Snake, Bird, Pelican or Earth Goddess, totemic matriarchal ancestress, female initiator, phallic mother, or archetypal image." So... it's a bit complicated! Physically, she is typically depicted as an older woman with sagging features. She flies around in a mortar and pestle, and lives in a hut on chicken legs. Of course, this is all open to interpretation. Here is the Wikipedia article to read more.

Swap rules!

  • 1 ATC to one partner

  • standard 2.5" x 3.5" size

  • ATC can be any medium, please just put in effort. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE AN ARTIST. You just have to be willing to make art. The card you receive may reflect this.

  • use a sturdy backing

  • on the back, write your name, date, and the name of the swap. Make sure you include your username somewhere in the package (on the back of the card is fine).

  • send the card in a protective sleeve -- you can buy trading card sleeves for cheap, or make one out of things like sticker cellophane, thin paper, etc

  • open to newbies with full profiles, no unexplained 1's or 3's. Message me if you have any concern. I reserve the right to remove anyone for any reason. I will angel, but please give 8 weeks after send date for your ATC to arrive! If the time is coming near and you know you're going to flake for whatever reason, honestly just let me know so I can get it done sooner.

Don't be shy to ask me anything you're unsure about. Also, feel free to leave suggestions for future subjects for the series in the comments.

Wish I made ATCs, it's such a cool theme!

Pupullona 02/17/2022 #

Ok, I'll give it a try :)

I'm so excited you decided to join! I didn't want to pressure, but I think a passion for the subject is something that always reflects in the final product :)

I always see collage on ATC's. Is painting/drawing/water colour etc also ok?

HausOfImps 02/23/2022 #

@idlersdesign yep, painting/drawing/watercolor are all good! This series might be a bit difficult to collage for other than backgrounds, anyway -- but everything is welcome!

Btw -- I have made the decision to allow a couple brand new swappers. If you are paired with someone unrated or who has just joined and feel uncomfortable with the risk, let me know after I assign partners and I will "angel in advance" -- ie, send you an ATC before the deadline as well. Best case scenario, you get 2 ATCs and a newbie gets a type 3 rating! Worst case, you're stuck with my art, but at least you won't have the disappointment of receiving nothing!

For real, don't be shy to reach out. I don't mind or I wouldn't have allowed these users to participate, knowing the risk involved. Lookin' forward to tomorrow :)
