Description:

OK, I have to admit - I LOVE great natural fiber yarn - can't get enough! I have become a yarn snob. But let us unite as I know I am in good company. I am a bit bored with the Fall and Winter colors and am looking forward to Spring already. So for this swap:

  1. must be natural fibers, try to pick softer fibers and stay away from scratchy
  2. think Spring! try to stay away from dark and neutral colors - think bright and fresh (TRY TO AVOID PASTELS AS IT SEEMS MOST DO NOT CARE FOR THESE COLORS - CHOOSE VIBRANT SPRING COLORS)
  3. you will have one swap partner
  4. you will send your partner three skeins/hanks of good quality yarn (minimum yardage is 300 yards totally)
  5. swappers with ratings below 3 or no sends will not be able to participate
  6. this is an international swap
  7. HANDSPUN AND HAND DYED IS ACCEPTABLE

So get busy scouring the yarn shops and find some fantastic yarn for your partner - Spring is around the corner. Enjoy!

Hi,

Is there a minimum value to the yarn?

Beth 12/ 1/2006 #

I would love to get 100% wool yarn because I love felting. Thanks!

user4534 12/ 1/2006 #

Can we send handspun?

user2471 12/ 3/2006 #

Use your best judgment for value. Yarn snobs are very familiar with quality natural fibers. Typically good quality yarn starts at about $6 a skein/hank. Since I listed yardage as that may be more or less total number of skeins, you will have to work it out.

Yes, handspun is fine.

I want everyone to have fun with this and the anticipation of Spring and do not want someone picking up Red Heart or something. Quality yarn is a must - there is nothing better and it lasts a lifetime.

Any further questions, feel free to contact me or post a note.

user2704 12/ 4/2006 #

It may seem strange for a yarn shop owner to sign up for a yarn swap. But the truth is that there is so much cool yarn out there and only so much we can carry in the shop. Plus, I love sharing yarn with anyone who loves it as I do. I already have an idea and I don't even have a partner yet. This will be fun!

user2471 12/ 5/2006 #

Yes, I agree - you never know what you will receive! Great to have you join us.

user5020 12/ 6/2006 #

I love wool, alpacca, meriano, etc, I love cotten, silk. Not allergic to any fiber. I am exicted this will be my second swap.

user4338 12/ 9/2006 #

I love dark colors, as long as they're vibrant and bright. My fear is receiving pastels. :) And I'm ok with a little synthetic if it's in a novelty accent yarn. Excited for the swap!

user5076 12/12/2006 #

I would LOVE to receive some special homespun yarns. No allergies or color preferences. If its not my favorite color, it most likely will be one of my friends or someone in my family that I would love to make something special just for them.

user5215 12/13/2006 #

I am really excited for this...I am hoping that I get a yarn that I have never tried before!

wendyswoolies 12/14/2006 #

Looking forward to this - I love Spring colours and I am very definitely a yarn-snob!! Anyone who wants tips on what I like/dislike then check my blog www.wendyswoolies.com

user3287 12/14/2006 #

Count me in. I love to send surprises to friends. I love natural fibers and the colour of spring! My biggest problem is waiting until next year before swapping. Oh I am excited for this swap.

dashenka 12/16/2006 #

Hi, just to check - if the yardage is at least 300m over 2 skeins, is that ok? I found some lovely alpaca, which has a very high yardage per skein.

Cassandra 12/17/2006 #

i would love some merino wool or alpaca. Anything from the red color family, greys, browns. hand dyed is great also.

user2471 12/18/2006 #

Yes, the yardage is the minimum, not number of skeins. If you meet the yardage requirements even though it is only two skeins, that is fine.

knitwillis 12/19/2006 #

I admit it, I'm a yarn addict. But the only thing that sucks is I'm allergic to wool. But it seems to be bulky weights and roving that bothers me. I have no problem with sock yarn, go figure?

user3156 12/24/2006 #

Knittyoma - you yarn snob! I should have known it was only a matter of time before you started one of these!

user3156 12/24/2006 #

Cindi Lu Hu (love the name by the way - one of my nicknames!) I am allergic to wool as well, but I wanted to say that it may not be the wool, its probably the lanolin, and most sock yarns don't contain much lanolin in them. The bulkier weights that you speak of and the roving retain some of their lanolin, which is probably why you have an issue. Feel free to contact me if you have more questions about wool yarn!

user5434 12/28/2006 #

There's nothing like natural fibers!

mnsqb 12/30/2006 #

Am a learning to knit I really would like to find out what it's like to knit with not only good quality yarn, but also with natural fibers. Am looking forward to this.

Adriadru 12/31/2006 #

Hi, I´m from Argentina, so, I can hand made colored yarn, 100% natural fiber from Patagonia, can I participate in this swap?.I enjoy to participate in yarns swap but never here in swapbot. I wait for you answer to sing up in this swap. Thanks.

nifferjjl1980 01/ 2/2007 #

I just found this site thru someone's blog. This is the coolest thing ever. I'm so excited about this. I'm an obsessive knitter and can not wait to see what I get. It doesn't matter to me what is sent. It'll be fun to have someone else pick out my yarn instead of me since I always choose things I tend to like.

user4258 01/ 3/2007 #

Hi all! I'm pretty excited about this swap, it sounds great! As I'm a spinner, but don't want to spoil any surprises by asking my partner, I'd really appreciate it if any of you could mention if you defnitely DON'T want any handspun. I just want to make sure to send something that will be enjoyed :) And for whoever gets me, no yellows or light greens please! I love Alpaca and am happy with almost everything else. Just no 100% cotton please, as I went cotton crazy last summer and still have a mountain to knit through LOL!

user2471 01/ 3/2007 #

Adriadru -

yes, please participate just follow the guidelines for the swap and you will be fine.

I encourage anyone to participate and personally encourage those with talents as handspinning or dyeing techniques to join in - makes it more personal and much more fun!

Happy Swapping.

MrsQ 01/ 3/2007 #

Eek! I can't believe I'm doing this...the last thing I need is to walk into a yarn store! That being said...I love handspun, hand-dyed, 'most any weight, 'most any colour except pastels, darker colours are OK too, and 'most any fiber but cotton - can't knit with the stuff, it hurts my hands. What fun!

girlwithasword 01/ 4/2007 #

I agree with what Crafty Fox said - I love to spin and dye, so if my partner is okay with it, I'll send some really nice handspun. However if you don't like handspun, please mention it! :) I love all natural fibers, and am happy with any colors except pastels or very bright neon type colors. I love to knit socks, scarves, shawls, hats, and mittens....

dashenka 01/ 5/2007 #

I'd be delighted with any handspun - can't do it myself, and am really impressed by anyone who can!

user5020 01/ 5/2007 #

Is it the 10th yet??? I am so ready for this, I already have the yarn all that I am waiting for is the name of swap partner. If anyone wants to check out my blog for hints here it is http://decisions-decisions-decisions.blogspot.com/

JP 01/ 6/2007 #

I am so excited about this swap! :) I love trying new yarns! I love all colors, except light pink. Anything else is awesome! Any natural fiber is great...I'm not allergic to anything. And, any handspun or unusual fiber or color mix is peachy keen as well! :) I'm in the mood for something different! :)

NanaJo 01/ 7/2007 #

This is just great! I love natural fiber, but am allergic to wool. Alpaca, any silk blends, bamboo, soy, banana is up my alley. I am Pacific Islander, so like clear colors rather than heathery types. I also want to try self patterning sock yarns to make children's shrugs. Any Unusual fiber or colorway would be a real treat! 8-)

user4897 01/ 8/2007 #

I can't wait to find out who I swap with! I love natural fibers...no allergies. I think it would be fun to get someone's handspun. I love bright spring/summery colors, yellow, green, red, blue, even orange. I knit alot of socks, so sock yarn would be nice. But I am branching out and knitting other things, so any yarn would be used.

digitalmaven 01/ 9/2007 #

This sounds like lots of fun!

I really love variegated colors, especially bright ones. Nothing too thick or thin, as I use yarn for weaving. The softer the better too. No junky craft store stuff, please.

Triners 01/ 9/2007 #

I think I will want to make stockings and gloves out of whatever I get... but... worsted or sportweight please! I like THICK socks even in spring! and not 100% cotton. Handspun/dyed is cool too, but not nessasary! I have been in a few swaps that were supposed to send 'natural fibers' where I recieved 'craft store junk' its such a dissapointment, I can't wait for this swap to redeem my yarn swapping faith!

I wasn't sure about this back when it showed up during the holidays... but now that its past new year, I too am ready for some happy spring colors!

user4010 01/ 9/2007 #

Yay a new Swap... my last one is about to end so it's time for something new. Geez, I'm such an addict now...

I would love handspun/hand dyed. I am trusting the taste of all the people on here since it does say "yarn snobs" so if you self-identify as such, get me whatever ;-) I love knitting socks, but will do anything so please get creative.

nifferjjl1980 01/ 9/2007 #

Ok, so just to clarify....We are sending high quality yarn, right? I will take whatever I get although I dont knit using smaller needles or thinner yarn. My hands get too cramped. I started a pair of socks in June and can't get thru them!! I'm thrilled to have someone pick out my yarn which is why I decided to do this. I tend to stick to the same colors! I can't wait I can't wait I can't wait!!!!!

Mimiwonton 01/11/2007 #

This sounds great! I am really into socks and knitting for grand-kids right now, so the bright springy colors are going to be fun! Can't wait to start shopping for my swap partner!

winemakerssister 01/11/2007 #

This sounds like a lot of fun. I'd be happy with handspun... or any commercially-spun natural fibers: silk, alpaca, wool, etc. If it's something you love, I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

user5583 01/11/2007 #

I'm glad we're getting started! I love handspun yarn and hope I get something new to try! I love springy colors; pinks and yellows, so this is just great for me.

user5020 01/11/2007 #

Leslie your package is on it's way. The post man said you should have it be next week Wednesday. I hope you enjoy!

user4688 01/23/2007 #

Knittyoma

I feel sorry for the person who has "muse" for partner. She has burned several people including one person in a swap where I'm the coordonnator. Be sure that she will never be in on of my swap again. She has been known as "Mermaid", "Nothing" and now "Muse". May be you should get in touch with the person who has her and the person who was supposed to sent to her. I could not do that on time so now somebody will end with no package.

mazzam 01/23/2007 #

Leslie, your fabulous parcel arrived yesterday. i love the yarn - it's daffodils, celandines and buttercups. I don't know what it will be, it's just cheering me up at the moment. Thanks too for the generous extras, they are all great. Will post to my blog soon.

leeduck 01/24/2007 #

Gaylynne, your package arrived yesterday. The yarn is so beautiful it brightened my crummy day thanks. If you want me to leave a rating for you, you'll have to tell me your user name since I don't know which one is you.

Janetburns 01/24/2007 #

Deb, your package arrived from Switzeland today....You picked my favorite colors.....thank you.....and what a special treat the candy was.....love chocolate took, Thanks again, Janet

user5215 01/24/2007 #

Ruth, I got your package yesterday! The yarns are lovely and thank you so much for including suggested project ideas for each yarn. One of my biggest challenges as a beginning knitter to trying to figure out what I can make with a new yarn so I really appreciated the ideas. :) You are a great swap partner.

Jaichan 01/26/2007 #

Gina,

I got your package today! Thank you so much. The colours are perfect; I don't have those in my stash. I already have projects assigned to those skeins. And the gloves are perfect!

Thanks again,

Janice

Jaichan 01/26/2007 #

Whoops, by Gina I meant Geri. I'm so sorry. I have gotten wonderful packages from both these lovely women. Thanks again, GERI; I will send pics of the FOs.

nifferjjl1980 01/26/2007 #

How do you rate someone?

wendyswoolies 01/26/2007 #

Valerie - thanks for me three bright yarn balls. I've just got into crocheting so I might turn these into a lovely shawl or throw or something to brighten up my dark, winter days

wendyswoolies 01/26/2007 #

NifferJJL - the "rate" option only appears 7 days after the last day set for posting in the swap so log in on 7th Feb and you will see a link to click to rate people

user2704 01/26/2007 #

Amanda,

I LOVE the Schaeffer Anne. This is a yarn that we don't carry at Yarntopia and one I don't have in my sock stash...until now. Thanks so much. The little sock blocker key chain and pattern are too cute. This was a great treat. Thank you so much!

Sheryl

savyjade 01/26/2007 #

Sheryl- I am so glad you liked it! I was so worried I would get something you already had! Have a great day! Amanda

knitwillis 01/27/2007 #

Gigi, I'm glad you liked the yarn I got you. Have fun! Cindi

Beth 01/28/2007 #

Why did "Muse" get to sign up for this swap if no one with less than a 3 is accepted and she has a 1.4? I hope I don't have her since I haven't gotten anything for the last two swaps I've done. :(

knitwillis 01/29/2007 #

Beth, I received the yarn today. I love it! I can't wait to make a hat with the yarn. Cindi

Mimiwonton 01/29/2007 #

Sissie, Got your package today! 3 skeins of Ella rae Classic in soft aqua. Thanks!

user4010 01/29/2007 #

Thanks to my partner for the BEAUTIFUL Schaefer Anne... sorry I don't have the box with me and I can't remember your name :( but it is super pretty and I love the little sock blocker.

kisses!

JP 01/30/2007 #

I'm beginning to get a bit worried that the person with the 1.4 rating might have been matched up with me.....I haven't received my swap yet and haven't heard anything from my partner for this swap.

Hopefully, I receive my swap in the next week or two. If you're my partner and are just mailing on the deadline, or need to send late, please message me and let me know. :) Then I won't have to worry about whether I was partnered up with the bad swapper.

Hugs! Juli

Juli

user4688 01/30/2007 #

Tara,

Your package is on his way to your home. It should take 4 to 6 days since is coming from Canada Hope you like it.

lucyellen 01/30/2007 #

Juli W - your package is on it's way - it actually went to the post office with my husband today before I read your posting here - I'm a long way from the yarn shop and I thought that I had until the 31st to send it out! Sorry for the worry on your part - it's coming.

winemakerssister 01/30/2007 #

Lucyellen, we do have until the 31st to send our package. I think it's just that those of us who haven't yet received our swap (me included) are nervous that the person with the 1.4 rating got our name...

JP 01/31/2007 #

No worries Lucy.....you did have until today!!!! :) I'm relieved. A bad swapper in the mix is like playing swap-roulette. I saw that person with the 1.4 rating that snuck in on this swap and was worried. This muse person has been signing up for swaps at the last minute under several user names and has left at least 4 people without their swap items.

Cassandra 01/31/2007 #

i received my yarn today from Lee. Nice hand spun yarn. I think i will make a scarf with it.

Kaylee 01/31/2007 #

I'm getting a little nervous, too. I'll be stalking my postman :)

NanaJo 02/ 1/2007 #

Kathy, I received my package today and the Yarns are the Bomb!!! I'm feeling like SPRING already! The special treats were such a nice touch. Please give me you SWAP name so I can leave you A+++ rating! Thanks Jolene

TaraInColorado 02/ 1/2007 #

Gina, I'll watch for it! Anything that reminds me of spring is welcome with all this snow!

Laura V., yours is in the mail and on its way to you!

Tara

user2704 02/ 1/2007 #

Ruth, I sent you package last week but forgot to notify the swap that I had done so. You should receive it soon. I was told it would take 7-10 days so that means Monday at the latest - I hope.

Sheryl (Hip Cat)

savyjade 02/ 1/2007 #

Maggie- I got my swap a few days ago. It was absolutely wonderful! The baby alpaca is so soft and the handspun is beautiful! The lavender soap and sachet were such a nice touch! What a great swap partner!! I am soo happy with everything! You are awesome!

dashenka 02/ 1/2007 #

Hi,

I sent my items last night to Evelyn, but just missed the last collection, sorry! Hope it will be with you soon!

dashenka 02/ 1/2007 #

Sorry! Not Evelyn, I've sent yarn to Heather! Evelyn is a different swap, sent both at the same time! Must get new brain......

Me, Dashenka? Yay! I'll let you know when it arrives.

user4010 02/ 3/2007 #

Laurie2025, I just sent your package today, I'm sorry it was so late :( But I sent it priority so you should get it mid-next week.

lucyellen 02/ 4/2007 #

Juli W - I'm so glad that you finally got your package! Thanks for letting me know it arrived!

user5020 02/ 6/2007 #

user5543 02/ 6/2007 #

Sheryl - thank you for the amazing yarn which arrived today. I adore the Hand Maiden wool/silk blend.... and the colours are just perfect for me. I've never seen either of the magazines either. THANK YOU so so much for such a wonderful parcel!

TaraInColorado 02/ 8/2007 #

Gina, Thank you for a lovely package! Green is a great color to see in February!

Tara

fireemtgirl 02/ 9/2007 #

I know that my box arrived at its destination this morning. Delivery confirmation is worth the extra money. My yarn was late in getting here. Actually the first yarn I picked still hasn't shown up. I had to order another yarn but it came in just a few days. I hope Laura likes it.

girlwithasword 02/16/2007 #

Woot! got the most awesome package! Blue is beautiful - perfect! I can't wait to knit the scarf! I've been enjoying my chai latte and the little handmade mug is SO cute! thank you VERY VERY MUCH! :)

TaraInColorado 03/ 2/2007 #
