Description:

I know we're just starting summer right now, but winter will be coming on in a few months!

I don't know about anyone else, but, after the end of last winter, my scarves are getting slightly ratty, and I'm kind of tired of seeing them - I'd love some new ones! I'm also enthusiastically learning how to crochet and quilt at the moment, and look forward to getting better!

Your challenge, should you chose to accept it, is to create one scarf for one partner, out of any fiber-related method you chose (Knitting? Quilting? Crochet? Embroidery, if your partner isn’t living somewhere where warmth is a requirement? Go for it!) You’ll have slightly over 3 months to do this, so no panic about time!

In order to make everyone’s life a bit easier (and to ensure that everyone is likely to be pleased with their swap!) please comment below after signing up and let us know what kind of scarf you like (in a general way)! What color coat do you wear (so we can make sure our scarves don’t clash horribly with everything you own!)? Allergies to wool? (Hey, it could happen!) Let us know!

No newbies (sorry!), or anyone with a rating under 4.5. And no flaking out, please! This is an INTERNATIONAL swap.

Remember that not all people have equivalent crafting skills, and that some people are still learning! Please send something you’d be pleased to receive, and please rate indulgently!

I love scarves!! ...and I a habitually cold, so I don't have to wait for winter to wear mine. I prefer the larger - longer varieties and feel free to pull out all the stops when it comes to color. The brighter, the wilder the better! I usually describe my style as funky artful, not funky stupid. Feel free to experiment! Pastels and neutrals really aren't me. But black... black is always a good option. Can't wait!

I live in Mississippi, so light weight scarves will work for me. It gets cold here but not like where some of the rest of you live!! My winter coat is black and my favorite color is pink. I would love any color though. : )

Ros 05/21/2008 #

I have a lizard-like love for heat, and I live in Canada, so warmth is a necessity!

I tend to like scarves reasonably thin, but longer than average - long enough to wrap around my neck twice and then tie, basically!

I'm not big on pastels, but that's about my only color issue - I love greens, reds, and blues.

I've been experimenting with scarves made from crochet-ed flowers lately - I think those can look really pretty! :)

shtrqueen 05/22/2008 #

My coat is a purple - eggplant colour. I like greens, dark purples, or black, but I'm open to other colours. :)

ellie 05/28/2008 #

No wool for me please, I am allergic to it.

I would love a light weight scarf, no yellow ,lime green or orange

ladybree 05/28/2008 #

I like the long, skinny scarves too. I like pretty much any colour, but would prefer NOT to have any colours with yellow or orange tones. Thanks :)

niss 05/30/2008 #

the more unusual the better for me, i am a scarf junkie!

MrsPepper 06/ 1/2008 #

Hi all, my only dislikes are yellow tones and fuzzy yarn and I love anything that is red, reddish or has red in it. Other than that I'll be happy to get whatever you create. Thanks!

glamgirl 06/ 2/2008 #

My favorite colour is green so any scarf from that would be cool. Don't mind about the method or manner as long as it gets around my neck I'll be happy. Not allergic to anything I know of so pretty easy to please - as long as it is green ;-)

rikkiknits 06/ 2/2008 #

Hello all! I am also a Canuck, so it'd be cool if my scarf was pretty warm - but hey, I could use a lightweight one for the fall if you're happier knitting in that style.. I'm very easy to please, if you like it I probably will :) just no boringness please

BLee 06/ 2/2008 #

Greetings. Please no yellows, oranges, or neons. Love blues, purples, pinks, greens together or seperate. Even in sunny San Diego we have our days when light scarves are a necessary blessing. Plus, I just love scarves. Both creating and wearing!

Kasasha 06/ 4/2008 #

I love scarves. All kinds, just nothing pink please. Other than that Im pretty easy going.

Hannah 06/ 4/2008 #

I live in Maine, so warm a warm scarf would be great! I do not like pastel colors, they wash me out; anything else will be fine. I prefer natural fibers, they tend to keep me warmer but am not totally against the right kind of man-made fiber. I'm a scarf fiend and am sure to love whatever type you make!

Adriadru 06/ 7/2008 #

I love to wear scarves, I prefer long and softly ones. I dislike colors like yelow, violet and fuccia.

mourtisha 06/ 7/2008 #

I like long, skinny scarves. Not a big fan of pastels. I have different coats so any color combo is fine. I live in Oklahoma and sometimes its cold sometimes its not. So whatever.

LydiaAbigail 06/ 8/2008 #

I'm not to fond of pastels. I like dark, warm, earth colours.

Sooty2Shoes 06/ 8/2008 #

I live in Michigan, so it def. gets super cold here! :D

I LOVE all colors. I'm not a fan of skinny scarfs, though. I love super long and wide scarfs, but I'm happy with anything.

Thanks! :D

I love colorful, scrappy scarves!

Knittinglikecrazy 06/ 9/2008 #

I live in central Illinois, so our winters can be cold. I'm usually hot though. My winter coats are red with black trim and all black. Any fiber would be OK.

LMNtalAlchemy 06/ 9/2008 #

Coats are both brown.

It can get a bit nippy even on a summer morning, so a funky, light, long scarf that can be folded in half on itself or wrapped a bunch of times would be wonderful and appreciated. I would prefer soft fibers or fabrics around my face/neck. I have a LENGTHY commute and when I am wearing a scarf, it stays on! For knitters and crocheters: Squiggle is about as wild as I get with the novelty yarns. I do like texture.

Already have a rust-colored scarf and a chartreuse cowl. It would be great to mix things up a bit. See my profile for color preferences. I DO love oranges and yellows! Mmm ... mustard and rust!

Please be certain to send any tips for care and info on fiber content!

LMNtalAlchemy 06/ 9/2008 #

p.s. not a fringe kinda gal ... sorry!

messy 06/11/2008 #

I live in Virginia, it gets cold here but doesn't last long so I don't need a heavy weight scarf. I'm not picky about type or size or design. I wear lots of denim so anything goes. I do have a big neck, I'm not on the petite side :) other than that do your thing! If you like it I'm sure I will too.

Bonnie1952 06/11/2008 #

Any type of scarf is great....as for colors, good choices would include any color of blue, grey, black, or a combination thereof (one coat is black, the other blue). Actually, any color other than orange, lavender, or pink. This will be fun!

Sooty2Shoes 06/12/2008 #

Oh, and I LOVE cowls, too. :D

And any kind of fiber (except cotton - not a big fan) is good. :D

IndyGuapo 06/12/2008 #

I am new to crocheting, so thank you for allowing so much time to work on this! :)

I live in New England where it can be quite cold. I'm easy to please with regards to material and color... comfort, I guess, is my main request in a scarf.

motes 06/13/2008 #

Hi folks!

I live in Massachusetts, so warm for winter is good. But I am also someone who considers a scarf an essential accessory; I have a black lightweight one that I'm rarely without. So please feel free to create as your heart desires in regard to weight. (One request: no alpaca. My Siamese cats love alpaca and attempt to steal and lay claim to any alpaca item in the house.). My style is sort of punky and quirky...

KrisWW 06/14/2008 #

British winters aren't as cold as they used to be, but they're damp and miserable, so a nice warm scarf is a must.

I wear a lot of green, some brown and occasionally deep dark red - but not scarlet! Most fibres are fine with me, except for scratchy wool, but that's only because my youngest girl has eczema and it flares her skin up. Merino is fine.

Long and skinny, short and fat, crocheted, knitted - any kind of handmade scarf would be wonderful as long as I can snuggle into it on a grey morning.

lalchee 06/14/2008 #

I'm in damp Vancouver -- it doesn't get super-cold here, but cold enough for a nice, soft scarf!

The colours I wear most often are greens and purples, darker shades more often than light ones. Please no yellow or orange -- both lovely colours, but when put against my face, they make me turn a nasty shade of green! :-)

Any non-itchy, natural fibre is fine. :-)

Tunrida 06/15/2008 #

Winters are cold in Finland so a long and warm scarf is very appreciated. And I love colours red and black.

LittleRed 06/16/2008 #

I'm in Northern British Columbia so winters are very long and we get a week or two each year of very cold....-35C or -31F. I like longer scarves to wrap around as I will wear them in the fall with a vest or sweater too. I'm not a fan of acrylic fibers. My winter down jacket is black and my long wool dress coat is shocking pink. I prefer more vivid colour than pastels. Thanks for swapping;)

arcticgirl64 06/17/2008 #

Oh I`ve missed this one by two days. :(

sagobrandt 06/21/2008 #

I would like a long and warm scarf for the winter. Natural fibers please, I can`t stand acrylics. I love all colors so feel free to make one of your choice. i like surprises.

Snow 08/ 4/2008 #
