Description:

Welcome to our first christmas swap ever on this group. =) I know it's so early, I wish I didn't have to start now and sort of kill the spirit, but because these will be international, we need lots of time to make sure by christmas we have all of our envelopes. I've worked out when we send all of it with a calendar.

My advice: Start early. And start putting these together when you have free time.

The idea behind this swap is that you will be sending & receiving 25 happy mails to your partner. I was thinking of a christmas swap, and I thought, besides stocking stuffers, what swaps would I love to open on christmas day? What isn't heavy & expensive to post, yet super satisifying? Flat mail envelopes full of paper goodies! The swaps I participate in most, yet 25 of them to open on christmas day really would be amazing!!!!

Just like "themes in an envie" you will be sending your partner, in each swap, ONE envelope full of paper ephemera, smash book goodies, crafts, stickers, stationery, etc. Whether you would like to sign up for every single one of these swaps, is up to you. If you do, you will end up with 25 gifts to open on christmas which will be envelopes full of goodies for you.

YOU CAN JOIN IN AT ANY TIME.

I can't control when people open their swaps but I am putting this here; THESE ENVELOPES ARE FOR CHRISTMAS. Please, if you are joining this swap, PLEASE don't open your swaps when you receive them & rate saying how much you loved what your partner included. I am sneeky & I will be looking around at some ratings and if you are opening your gifts early I won't let you in further swaps. Keep your pesky hands away from them and keep them 'til christmas. Trust me, it will all be worth it in the end! Plus we have lots of flat mail swaps going on until then if you just can't wait. :)

Ok, you've all got the idea. Now let's get down to the nitty gritty. These swaps are going to be quick. We've got 12 of them to get through & I would like us to be done by the first week in December. So here's the requirements so we can get started.

Two partners - Send your partner 1 envelope, handmade or storebought. This isn't the christmas envelope. Your partner will be opening this one whenever. So decorate how you like or keep it plain. Include a note with swap name/your name!

  • Please put your actual swap e.g, christmas gifts, wrapped in gift wrap (christmas gift wrap is senders choice), paper, or even another envelope. Nothing clear. Include a tag or label on it so we know who it is from. This is what we're saving to open on christmas.

  • When you receive this swap, you'll open the mailed envelope, and take your christmas envelope/wrapped gifts and keep them safe until christmas.

  • You will be rating on your partners sending on time, NOT on what they send until after christmas you are more than welcome to go back and edit your rating.

What to send? - These are aimed to be easy, flat swaps. It is senders choice, and yes you can destash. We are all paper lovers and that's what this swap is for. However, as always, christmas swap or not, I would recommend looking at your parnters profile just to see if you can make their day by including something they love or collect if you have time. As always, do NOT send anything dirty, broken, just plain rubbish or useless.

  • Please avoid sending gifts that are not flat or store bought gifts like jewelry, lotions, books, etc. It just isn't fair if you are sending big gifts and your partner is sticking to requirements and sending flat mail. You are more than welcome to buy things like stationery and stickers for the swap but PLEASE remember this is FLAT MAIL and paper ephemera please don't be going out spending lots of money and be disappointed to get an envelope full of paper in return.

  • You all know by now what goes in these types of swaps. If your memory needs refreshing... Stationery, pens, pencils, note pads, notecards, greeting cards, stickers, vintage ephemera, paper ephemera, maps, photographs, book pages, cut outs, embellishments, beads/buttons, ribbon, washi tape, memos, smash book supplies, sticky notes, book marks, postcards, attractive scrap papers, patterned card stock, patterned papers, brads, die cuts, envelopes, letter sets, used stamps, the list goes on...

  • The minimum is 10 pieces. Try to fill your envie but there is a lot of swaps so you are welcome to stick to 10. Include a variety. :)

Let's start getting excited for christmas. Let's get swapping!!!

All of these info won't be on every swap. If you are going to participate in any round of this swap please bookmark this page. Calendar of all rounds: (in process)

Hunny, if I make it thru successfully I want you to come to my house and make lunch!

kittyhahahotbot 08/31/2014 #

You knew it was coming so here is the first question: I need clarification to understand.....The 2nd or 3rd paragraph states "25 envies to open for Christmas" Do I understand that there will be a total of 15 swap? 2 envies to 15 partners? And if we open one upon receipt how many total are left to Christmas? THANK YOU.

Linsoid 08/31/2014 #

Kittyhahahotbot it looks like you get two ahoy mail swaps. They're going to be plain looking on the outside, but inside the outer envelope will be the one we save for Christmas. We aren't opening any actual happy mail before Christmas :)

cutesygirlynai 09/ 1/2014 #

@kittyhahahotbot there's 12 swaps, if you look at the calendar at the end of the swap requirements it shows the dates =) there are 12 swaps in total, most of them require 2 partners, but by the last swap we will have 3 partners. it was either 3 partners on the last one or adding an extra swap in december but it would be too tight. by the 11th swap you'll have 22 envies, and on the last swap you'll send/receive your last 3, making it 25. by christmas, whatever day you celebrate & decide to open all of them; if you have participated in the WHOLE of this swap you'll have 25 envies to open. if you start participating in these swaps & opening them, as in, using this swap as anormal flat mail swap then i won't let you join in future rounds. we have lots of flat mail swaps up like themes in an envie, that run regularly. this is just for christmas :]

& as @linsoid confirmed, you will be opening the actual envelope (with the address/stamps on it) and your gift will be the envelope inside. that's what you'll be keeping. :]

roosje 09/ 1/2014 #

Any size requirements for the envelopes, or weight requirements? I think most envelopes will have 2 or 3 stamps probably.

Johkup 09/ 1/2014 #

I was wondering the same thing as @roosje Any size or weight requirements? Here 1 stamp letter can weigh only 20 grams. In different countries flat mail differs in size and price.

kittyhahahotbot 09/ 2/2014 #

Just wondering here....or thinking out loud.....12 swaps, 2 partners each, maybe a max of 15 participants each time.....the probably of getting the same partner each time, time after time...is very high,.....which means we'll be faced with needing a HUGH variety or faced with remembering what we've already sent and try to send something different??? ANYONE care to give me another perspective???? x

chelle523 09/ 2/2014 #

I am sooo excited for this one, Naomi - brilliant idea for a swap!

chelle523 09/ 2/2014 #

@kittyhahahotbot - I don't think anybody will complain if there's repetition. Everyone here is pretty laidback and we often get the same partners for series swaps. It's okay - just have fun with it!

nightreverie 09/ 3/2014 #

Do the gifts themselves have to be Christmas themed or can they be anything? I know the envelopes do but do the goodies inside have to be?

cutesygirlynai 09/ 3/2014 #

@roosje I don't know about stamps as the way I post my mail, I have to have it all weighed before and the stamps are printed out from a machine. Weight I would say a minimum 20g, but it might be different in ither countries. All I know is most of my flat mail swaps they weigh usually no less than that. I don't ever weigh mine or go by the weight. It should be what you sent and the content, don't obsess over weight

@johkup size is up to what you send. 10 pieces of flat paper ephemera is going to be smaller than 8 pieces of flat paper and 2 pieces of ribbon. It is up to you what you send and how it is as long as you meet requirements.

@kittyhahahobbot I don't think that is an issue? How does anyone have enough of the same paper and stationery to send an exact same swap to someone more than once?

@nightreverie I would recommend against sending that much of Christmas themed papers and ephemera because that'd be a lot of it, and after Christmas is done your partner would be stuck with a ton of Christmas ephemera lol and you'd have to go out buying a lottttt of Christmas ephemera and stationery to send 25 swaps of it too. It's just a normal flat mail, paper ephemera, smash book supplies, stationery swap. There really is nothing complicated about it.

@chelle523 :)

CindasSnailBox 09/ 4/2014 #

Such a fun idea...love this :)

chelle523 09/ 6/2014 #

On the subject of repetition - what I am doing with my packages (because I am a hoarder and have a HUGE stash of stuff! LOL) - I'm taking a photo of each package before I wrap it and send it, with a slip of paper with the swapper's name on it for my own record. That way I see what I've sent to each person. (Feel free to comment on my OCD tendencies - I won't be offended at all! LOL)

chelle523 09/ 6/2014 #

Also @cutesygirlnai - you'll be happy to know I am having Gef hold these packages until Christmas because I am worse than a kid when it comes to surprises! LOL He's threatened to tattle to you if I even try to peek! :)
