Mystery items challenge #2 USA

I love a challenge!!

This sounds SO fun. It's been ages since I've done an ATC swap, but this is too interesting to pass up. :)

I've never done anything like this. It sounds like fun. I feel that this swap will help me learn.

Can we use other items in addition to those you send? Do we use all of the items on each of the three cards we make?

@mjhaertling You will want to use other items. You will get some instructions with the mystery item. You will get 3 items that are the same, one for each card. Plus 2 items to divide up among the 3 cards. These other 2 items will be larger and you can cut them down and use them as you like.

For example you get 3 bottle caps and a coffee sleeve and a music sheet from me. (but that is not the items)

These envelopes are sealed and will go out in Tuesday SEPT 13ths mail. Please post when you get them, right here in the comments section. Please dont say what it is yet till all 12 players comment that they arrived. If you dont have the envelope in a week please send me a PM.

I received mine today. Am I understanding correctly that I should use the playing card to make your ATC?

That? And what side would you prefer the art on, the suit side? Also I'm not totally sure what you mean by leaving one corner unfinished? Like just make a cool piece of art and have an odd spot in the left corner with nothing? Sorry to be difficult!

Yes, an altered playing card has the one corner visible.

btw when I make an altered playing card, I use a tape runner and run tape over the card, and SKIP the top corner. I lay the paper on top of all that tape runner tape. Cut it to size and then gently rip off that unglued corner. I often use distress ink on the top corner. You can see ones I have made in my PAT album (pat is Pick A Theme, they pick a theme and I have to make them a card)

You do have to scroll down the bottom to see some cards where I colored the corner, but there are several

Please do the art on the suite side and if you can not cover up the back of the card too much that would be nice. You can add contact info to the back or just add a slip of paper also.

I just noticed that in my album listed above there is a flamingo card in the second row. I actually folded back the paper for this card. That was when I was in my artsy fold back the corner phase.

I thought the APC, as they are called might add to the challenge.

I wanted to tell you that when I get your card for me the host, I will upload it to a photo album at flickr so everyone can see how different the cards came out.

I received my envelope today. It is going to be so tempting to look at the card you sent. That should motivate me to get mine done quickly. Lol!

Oh I so want more John Cusack Cards. Nothing specific. I have the whole deck. But I was in a JC mind set. I loved his 80s movies. Now he just plays creepy bad guys.

There are these swaps called PAT, pick a theme. So I would ask for JC from Martian child, or in the rain, or from Grosse Pointe Blank.
You will even see Rainbow backgrounds, as it was the requirement for the entire Pat to have some rainbow element. so I pick JC with rainbows.

The probably of looking is you either go... man, why didnt I think of that or man, that was my idea, or was it? SO I dont want the cards I made to influence your creative muse.

I had a real good question about removing the backing from said mystery item. The answer is yes, as I think that falls under the basic mystery items swap guidelines

Use these items on your cards so that it is visible in some way, yes, you may color it or rip it, or paint it, but leave some of it to be seen somehow. Abstract, zentagles, collage, and hand drawn/painted cards are all acceptable. The goal is to be challenged and think outside the crayon box.

Ok it looks most of the players have not posted that they got their envelope. So now the chatting can begin about these items. You should have received 3 lemon images, and a mesh bag and 2 book pages. If you are one of the 2 players that has to not only make me a hostess card, but also is one of my send to partners, you got one lime image. I did this so those two player didnt have to come up with 2 lemon ideas.

SPOILER ALERT... dont read further unless you are stuck.

I also mailed out cards with the envelopes to the 2 players I had to send to. I took photos and made an album on flickr. which you can find a link to my flickr page in my profile.

If you are stuck you can go look. I used the mess bag in 2 ways. I placed it down on the paper and painted over it with a green dabber. It then left behind a criss cross pattern. I also stapled part of the mesh bag to the top of my card as a Pull or tab.

I actually just cut some words out of my book pages and added them to my card. I didn't use it as the background.

Sorry, didn't know I was supposed to post here when I received the mystery items. I did message you because I didn't receive enough of some items to follow all the instructions to make all the things. Have no idea how this is going to turn out. So in addition to the ATC we make a PAT or something about John Cusack with a rainbow? Guess I'll just give it my best shot.

I got two lemons and one lime, two mesh pieces - 1 yellow, 1 green, two playing cards and a sheetof instructions. I've made one card, working on #2. Is #3 supposed to use a playing card or am I just making a regular ATC?? (And no worries, you won't need to angel for me 😀).

Oh I wasnt mentioning the angel cause of you, I mentioned it cause I found I had 2 more envelopes of extra lemons.

Make me a lime card on one playing card, a Lemon, on the other playing card. For the 3rd card to your other partner, you do not have to do a playing card. A reg atc is good. I sent the playing cards to use them up, and to give some variety to all the lemon cards I knew I would get back. That is a lot of lemon cards.

I think I have 2 extra envelopes of the lemons and stuff. Since that weekend, we have hardly had any lemons at the food bank. We had a huge lemon donation that weekend Usually we get bags like that cause one lemon is going bad. We take the food out of the bags, and throw away the one going bad into a compost bin. Well I saved all those bags that weekend, with the idea of doing this mystery image swap. I hope you had fun.
