Description:

Many thanks to @USAFwife for hosting our first Magpie Journal swap here in the group! Personally, I have great fun doing these and now have a box of daily ephemera that I collect for the express purpose of continuing on. Hopefully you'll join us for this round!

EDITED DUE DATE - Due to Labour Day falling on the original due date of the 3rd (an oversight on my part), I have moved the due date one day to the 4th to allow people to get to the post office to mail their swaps. If you have questions, please let me know.

Take or make a journal or notebook (no smaller than 4x6) and fill at least 30-pages with magpie goodness! What is magpie goodness? Think receipts, brochures, flyers, business cards, stickers, bits of mail received, scraps from your arts and crafting, bits of washi, used stamps from letters, recipes, found items (clean please!), candy wrappers (also clean please!), clippings from newspapers, books, or magazines...all of that stuff we might normally throw away or otherwise disregard.

There does not need to be an artistic component to this - it's not an art journal - but you can doodle, draw, stamp, add notes about particular items...however you want to share the shiny of your day-to-day life with your partner!

You may fill more than 30 pages if your notebook allows, but in order to keep postage reasonable, 30 pages will be the minimum. That's 15 sheets of paper if you're counting. ;) And for those concerned with postage, I have sent these overseas from the US before - it costs about 7.50 in USD.

Please note that this is NOT profile-specific so you may start your journals now - and there is a long lead time on this. This is open to each individual's interpretation, so what you receive may be very different than what you have done, but that's the beauty of creativity!

In a Nutshell

  • One notebook or journal, no smaller than 4x6, with 30 pages filled with clean magpie goodies!

  • Journals/notebooks may be store bought or hand made.

  • There is no artistic requirement for this journal - it is free form and up to each individual how they would like to compose their journals, but please put your best ideas and work into this.

  • Journals are not profile based.

The Administrivia

  • Make sure that you include the swap name and your username with this swap!

  • Send on time. Rate promptly upon receipt. Sending late without communication warrants a 3 rating and removal from the group. Not rating or having to be chased for a rating also warrants removal from the group. Communicate and rate.

  • Rate according to the Swap-Bot Rating Criteria. Failure to rate your partner or to rate correctly will result in your removal from this group.

  • If you are going to be late sending, make sure you let your partner and me know prior to the send-by date.

  • Hearts are purely at the discretion of the rater.

  • If you flake, you will be removed immediately from this group.

  • If you are flaked on, let me know. I will angel this swap after you rate a 1.

  • Questions? DM or leave a comment!

Has it to be themed according to the title or just filled with goodness ?

Cariboocarol 03/29/2018 #

Is that send by date correct? It seems like quite a long swap!

TamiTam55 04/ 1/2018 #

@cariboocarol - It's probably correct since it's a spring/summer swap. It would encompass all of both seasons. At least that's my opinion

renmagpie 04/ 2/2018 #

@damilola - It doesn't have to be specifically themed. Just the items you collect throughout the spring and summer months!

@Cariboocarol - Yes, the send-by date is correct. We give a long lead time for these seasonal magpie journals to ensure that you have time to document those seasons in the things you collect throughout for the journal...so @TamiTam55 you are correct in your assessment!

Question - what if in our magpie way we've almost filled a journal up...do we start a second one or mail it early?

MSturgill87 06/27/2018 #

@TamiTam what did you decide to do? Lol I'd love it if I received two! I tried to portion out so many pages per month on mine.

renmagpie 06/28/2018 #

@TamiTam55 and @MSturgill87 - If your journal is filled and you wish to send now, you can. It doesn't have to incorporate April to September perse - it was just the seasons for this journal.

If, on the other hand, you want to start another and go through the rest of the summer, you can do that too.

Bottom line - send it when it's met the swap requirements! If it's full, send it. If you want to keep going, keep going!

TamiTam55 07/ 1/2018 #

@MSturgill87 I've come to the conclusion I may allow myself a few pages per month and cut off at one journal since it's going to Germany and I'm sure it's going to cost a bunch if I fill another and send both, but...I reserve the right to change my mind. I've been known to do that. In fact, my boyfriend claims I'm the Queen of that. LOL
