Description:

I love zipper purses! I love making them and using them! I hope you all love zipper purses too and will join in a swap!

Lets make one zipper purse for our partner. Try to theme it to their colours and likes. If you would like to fill it with a couple of small items for your partner I am sure it would be appreciated, but it is not necessary.

I am only new to zips, and I am sure there are others too who are new to them, so lets not get pedantic over whether the purse is perfect or not, lets just have a go and have fun!

There are lots of zipper purse tutorials on the internet. Here is my favourite zipper tutorial But you do not have to do a lined purse if you find it too hard.

Rules: one partner = one purse, beginners (to swapbot and to zipper purses) welcome. Aussie swappers group only.

Any special colour or theme requests, please list in the comments, otherwise your partner will just check your profile to see what you like!

I will make the start date before christmas (so we can craft over the holidays if we want).

Thanks to MrsRankin for the request to do a zipper purse swap (which gave me the push I need to coordinate a swap).

PS. This is my first time to host a swap, so please join in, have fun, and be gentle if I forgot to mention anything!

Michelle, what size approx are we making these little lovelies?

michellew 12/ 7/2008 #

I normally use a 20cm or thereabouts zip and make it so that it a rectangle and looks nice by eye! I guess about 20cm x 12cm or 20cm x 15cm. I generally find that zips of around 20cm can be bought in cheap bulk packs in black or white at spotlight and they look to me to be a pleasing size!

Maybe if you have a specific size in mind, to use it for a purse in your handbag or something, list it in the comments here. Otherwise we shall leave it to the makers!

I shall try to remember tonight to measure the last one I made and list exact measurements here.

I would love to recieve a purse in peachy/cream/apricot/orange colours because that is what I am making my crafting area. But if my partner does not make materials in those colours, then whatever they make I would be more than happy with!

Also, I hope it is OK, but I am going to change the dates to 19th december (friday) - 19th january (monday)

Hi, I'm new here- I just love this idea- I've not 'done' zippers before so would be a wonderful incentive to begin. BUT unfortunately I am going away for three weeks so wont have my sewing machine handy to complete the swap in time ( 'cos I'll need a few practices first!!). If you think of doing it again I'ld love to be apart of it- or something like it anyway . Merry Christmas x

Darn, I forgot to measure the last one I made before I posted :(

The zips I use measure 21cm end to end, so finished size would be 20cm long. And width, I do what I think looks good! I hope that is enough to go by.

Yah niss, I'm glad you are having a go! I'm sure you will do a great job! I find unlined is easier, because the sides in lined ones can be really painful. But then I like having different colours inside. I find the trick with unlined is that when you have the to sew the entire sides at once, make sure that the outside is sitting nicely and the inside will be what it will be! It seems to work for me! Sorry that it is not a better explanation!

That meant to say "the trick with lined"

have a wonderful christmas thesmallthings and I am sure that we will run this swap again! I know I didn't have any incentive to learn dreaded zips till I started swapbot!

I like purple or cute Japanese style fabrics. I'm not at all particular really though as I love everything! This is a really good fun swap, thanks Michelle!
