Description:

For this swap, you'll be perusing your local thrift stores for something you might think is a treasure. It may be a vintage purse, or an intricate crystal swan....it's all up to you.

You will send your partner the treasure you've found, complete with a handwritten note about where you found it and why you think it's so wonderful.

This item should cost you anywhere from $3 to $10 (before shipping). Please try to find something that has at least an average value of $5 (for example, your treasure is worth $5 or more, but they've got it priced for $3.

This is a total Sender's choice, so recipients will rate based on a timely reciept of the item and the creativity of the letter/treasure.

*However, sender can decide to view their partners profile and choose something they think their partner would like. If you decide to do it that way, it's fine - just explain in your letter why you chose it for them.

This swap is only open to Swappers with a 5.0 rating.

Can the item be purchased at a garage sale, estate sale, etc.?

mystic69 05/21/2009 #

I don't see why not - use your own best judgement! :)

Um....Is there any kind of rating requirements??? I would feel much better about joining if there were some guidelines set to lessen the chance of flakers. Got it in my watch for now.

I'm going to watch this one. A warning. I tried to send something to Canada in the mail but didn't know you have to fill out a customs form and declare value and pay more for that and shipping. Ouch.

jaz1yn 05/21/2009 #

Thanks, mystic69 :)

mutantpenguin - You don't have to pay for the customs form, but yes shipping is higher. To see current rates, you can go here. Also, you need to fill out a customs form anytime you send a package internationally. (For those in the U.S. at least... I'm not sure about other countries though packages I've received always have customs labels if it was from another country.)

I just looked at shipping a pkg to Canada (thanks jaz1yn) and it was $10-$26 if you were sending something significant. In the nature of this swap (say, if someone wants to send a heavier item), I think that would be too much for shipping so I've changed this swap to only include US participants (since no one who's signed up so far is in Canada).

If someone in Canada wants to copy this idea for a Regional Canada swap, that would be great.

Hope this helps!

This sounds like fun. I love shopping around at goodwill. I will have to hit some other local thrift stores next week I have my 2 days off in a row. Good time to do some thrifting.

I am definitely watching this swap for now....what a great idea! (might be moving, so I don't want to sign up until I know for sure...)

This sounds like lots of fun---I love thrift store shopping---love garage sales, too, but with 100 degree temps right now (in OK) thrift stores are much cooler!
