While driving down the LA freeway nothing keeps my tension low and my hand from pounding the horn like folk music. Those soothing voices, soulful lyrics, and acoustic guitars make me want to sing instead of snarl. When I say folk music, think Ani DiFranco, Simon & Garfunkel, Indigo Girls, Cat Stevens, Melissa Etheridge... If there's a folk music lover inside of you too, then this is your kind of swap. Burn a CD of at least 12 folk songs for your partner. No more than 3 songs from an artist, please. Mail one CD to two partners. This is an international swap. Those with a 4.5 rating or higher with no recent no sends are welcome. Newbies with completely filled out profiles are also welcome. (Please have more than a sentence or two.)

Can it also contain traditional folk song genres, like British or Irish folk?Or would you prefer singer-songwriter emphasis for this one?

Feel free to include a wide variety of folk music, including British and Irish folk. I used the examples I did only so that people would understand that I meant folk music for adults, and not folk songs like children would sing in elementary school. I think it would be great to be introduced to some non-mainstream folk artists, in addition to the more well known ones.

I would love to join this swap, with an emphasis on more traditional folk... Not having much in the way of singer/somgwriter in my collection...

I'm finding the process much harder than I had anticipated. There is no real consensus on what folk music is, is there? I mean I see Norah Jones, The Decemberists, and The Shins listed in the folk genre?? I'm having fun combing through the collected music of DH and I though. I'm finding I have a huge emphasis on female folk singers and not much on the males. Ooops! :-)

I find this area of music a grey area too. I hosted The Folk Show at my radio station for two years and included Norwegian and some country music as well. Artists like Cat Stevens and Joni Mitchell, who topped the rock charts, always sounded Folk to me. As long as this is ok, I'm in. :)

My breed of folk music would make you SCREAM, chickpea! My favorite folk singer is a leftist folk singer who likes to sing about controversial topics and hard-hitting issues...like Palestine, the bombing of Lebanon, and gang violence.

Probably better for me not to join! I don't want to freak my partner out.
