Description:

As per the request, I am starting a whimsey jar swap. I haven't done one of these in a while, so if there is anything you can think of to tweek it a bit, let me know and I'll see about changing it!!

I'm going to make this USA & Canada only. If you want to do an international version, you are more then welcome to create one!

The jar you use can be any kind of jar as long as you decorate it in a pretty way. If you use clear glass, be sure to decorate the lid at least. The size requirment is that the top needs to measure AT LEAST 3 inches wide and the jar needs to be AT LEAST 4 inches tall. It can absolutely be bigger, but anything smaller will not meet swap requirements.

For this, you will FIND A WAY to fit at least 8 of the following items:

  1. zipper

  2. spool of thread

  3. embroidery floss

  4. safety pins

  5. scissors

  6. 10 buttons of any size

  7. tailors chalk or pencil

  8. thread ripper

  9. Thimble

  10. FQ

  11. straight pins

  12. quilting pins

  13. sewing needles

  14. sewing machine needles

  15. 3 yards of ribbon...one continuous piece

  16. snaps of some kind to use in projects

  17. bobbins

  18. 1 yard of velcro of any color (must be both pieces)

  19. an item you have made

  20. a surprise item not listed on the list

This is senders choice (a great way to clear out the stuff you may not use anymore!), so you can get started on it right away.

If you can find a way to stuff more in the jar, you absolutely can if you want to!

Requirements:

  • Must have a rating of at least 4.9

  • Must have at least participated in 10 package swaps

  • If you flake, I WILL report you to the group founders. We don't want flakers int he swap!

  • I reserve the right to ban anyone that I get a funny feeling about.

i don't really understand what a whimsy jar is? We just decorate a jar and fill it with stuff?

crochetjunkie 04/ 5/2010 #

yep...fill it with at least 8 items from the list above!

From the Swap-bot Glossary (link on last line below):

Whimsey Jar – A small decorated jar filled with fun, random objects. Often (but not necessarily) decorated around a specific them and filled with items that match that theme. Recycled baby food jars or other small food jars are often used to create whimsey jars. (after being cleaned!).

Mason jars are good too.

Since this is a sewing theme after all, another option is to make the top into a pretty pincushion:

Just google "jar pincushion tutorial" if you need instructions.

As for me, I do not need any bobbins or sewing machine needles thanks to Santa. But everything else is fine. =)

Ohhh I wish I could join, but my daughter is graduating and I am busy. Also since the only store in town that sold fabric and notions went out of business I don't have time to go out of town to get stuff:( Maybe another in the future? Please:)

Oops too late to join anyway, LOL! Don't know how I missed it.
