QnT Free Motion Fun-Mini Art Quilt Free Motion Machine Quilting on a Miniature Art Quilt Free motion machine quilting is just that….quilting your project by freely moving the machine needle over the top of the quilt stitching soft curves, sharp points, or any continuous pattern your mind can dream up! Google “Free Motion Machine quilting†for examples. The basis for this fun swap was suggested by our buddie, AlteredArtFreak. She would like to do more free motion machine quilting and what better way to show-case it than on a mini art quilt! This will be an opportunity for those of us who haven’t done free motion machine quilting to get our feet wet. I am a newbie to free motion machine quilting and will be making a bunch of free motion pot holders for my home as practice before doing my mini art quilt for this swap. I’ll need the practice. You will have one partner and send your partner one mini art quilt approximately 10â€X10†to 15â€x15†(BUT doesn’t have to be a square) finished with free motion machine quilting. Since this is a mini art quilt the theme and quilt pattern will be totally up to you. You might want to make a 9 patch block and then in different thread colors quilt each patch with a different free motion pattern. Then again, you might want to do the entire mini quilt in one color thread and one pattern of free motion machine quilting. Since this swap will be all about your free motion quilting, be sure to do the best work you can. Make the machine quilting as interesting and attractive as possible, and pick a free motion style that will best complement your mini art quilt. Check partners profiles for inspiration in color and theme possibilities. If this swap is well received, we’ll do another one soon and use the Dresden Plate block of our choice as the basis for our mini art quilt. Think of the possibilities when using free motion machine quilting on a Dresden plate mini art quilt! Mini Art quilts are just that, miniature works of art, and besides being a creative process they should be made with your best creative efforts. The choices are endless and all up to you! Are you inspired to create? |
