I'm 50-something (going on 12 most days 80)). I'd love to be an eternal student, but instead spend my days working in marketing communications for a software company. I live in the country and love the outdoors -- hiking, sailing, beachcombing, cross country skiing, working in the garden -- and incorporating it into my art. Living in Oregon, there's lots or nature to work with! I also love animals -- mammals, birds and fish (but not so much reptiles and insects!).
I'm lucky to be part of a couple of women's artist groups, which is inspiring and affirming as I try out new ways of expression.
Just about everything, but especially blues, bluegrass, electronic, classical, cajun, celtic, reggae, latin and worldbeat-afro. Artists... Johnny Clegg, Lorenna McKenna, REM, Counting Crows, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Ian Tyson, Elvis Costello, Christine Lavin, Prince, Lyle Lovett, Bruce Springstein, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole... but I guess if I was on a desert island and had to choose only 3 CDs or downloads, it would probably be Bill Staines (First Million Miles), Kitaro (Silk Road) and a collection of gregorian chants.
Harold and Maud, Ran, Rivers and Tides, Microcosmos, Tales of Narnia, The Full Monty
Not much time available for TV, but when I do, it would be Frontline, CSI (the original)... and I get a kick out of Alton Brown's show on the Food channel.
Collage, book-making, papercraft, nature journals, watercolors, drawing. I love fibre arts, but have no experience working with them... yet. I tend to like abstract work, but images that appeal to me most include angels, spirals, mystical themes, asian motifs and sumi brush painting, rock formations, ocean creatures (fish, starfish, whales, mermaids..), Suns, leaves/plants, chickens, birds and... rhinos. I'm afraid I'm NOT a fan of cute cartoons, Disney characters, etc. I get inspiration from Andy Goldsworthy's work and like the challenge of working with found objects.
