Favorite Music

Favourite music - I am a baby boomer and tend to be stuck in the 70s. I love James Taylor, Elton John, Jackson Browne, The Eagles, etc. I also enjoy some contemporary country singers - Vince Gill, Travis Tritt, Colin Raye and John Berry for example. Dancing tunes - Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, and good old disco.

Favorite Books

I am a voracious reader and I read a variety of fiction genres and non-fiction subjects. However I am partial to mystery and thriller fiction. Also enjoy some comedic titles.

Favorite Movies

My pals are always surprised at how much I enjoy movies where everything gets blown up and there are lots of car chases. Love the old Lethal Weapons and Die Hard series. But I also enjoy romantic comedies. Not fond of slasher films. Don't watch much television, but if I do, I generally watch comedies.

Hobbies/Interests

Hobbies/Interests - I have enjoyed many hobbies over the years. I have sewn, done needlework and spent a great deal of time, and money, on rubber stamping.

However my current interest is in Elegant glassware. I collect it with a view to sell it some day, either on line, or in a home-based business. I particularly love the needle and plate etched stemware. I enjoy collecting all kinds of glass, btu stemware is my fave. I use it as I believe that people should enjoy their beverages in fine crystal.

I also enjoy gardening, golfing (poorly), tennis (poorly) and working out (infrequently).

Dislikes

Not many (yet at least):

I'm not fond of black licorice, but love the red as long as its fresh.

Don't like chocolate covered orange stuff or candy corn - yuck.

I don't like cutsey items with kittens, cartoons, anime, manga, or tv show characters such as Teletubbies, Smurfs, etc.

Reality television.

Likes

I like my postcards addressed and written on please.

I like self-help quotes, buddhist images, images with Chinese characters.

About Me

I am a 54 year old former teacher and current CEO of a public library system. I enjoy my job and its challenges. I have 3 great kids who are all out of the house at school, or pursuing grown-up lives.

I have a super partner, who is retired, and is a great support. We enjoy travelling and try to get away 2-3 times a year, although working cuts into my personal life - tee hee!

I have lived abroad in Africa for 5 1/2 years and spent 5 years in Canada's far north.

I truly believe that every day above ground is a pretty good day, so I try to live each moment and be grateful for all the opportuntities and blessings that I have.

I don't like 'talking' about myself, so pardon me if the profile seems brief. Doesn't look half as interesting as others I have read here.

Response: Cider is a traditional fall drink, after the apple harvest. Fresh and cold is great, but the hot is nice, in front of a fire. thank heavens it isn't that cold yet though. Enjoy. cheers. d.b.

Comment: I love the recipes you have sent and cannot wait to try them. As you can guess autumn in Aus is very different. Where I am it does not really exist. We get hot dry, hot wet, cool dry, cool wet (the cool indicates about a month of 'winter'). It is also when we start to plant tomatoes and the such so they can grow in our winter (summer is too hot). Strange I know. Thanks :)
Response: The seasons in southern Africa (I lived in Botswana and Lesotho) are the same as yours, south of the equator. Very hot in Botswana with no air con in our home. So...doesn't seem so strange. lol. cheers d.b.

Comment: Thanks for the pictures, it seems like a nice and quiet neighborhod :)
Response: You re welcome. It IS a quiet street although there are a number of young families in the area. We are the old folks on the street I think. Typical Canadian suburb for the time. Now the new housing that is built are huge, monster homes. Never understand what a family needs with all the space! cheers d.b.

Comment: Loved the pictures. And I would love to visit Canada. I am sure it is beautiful. We live in Conneticut for a year a few years ago and my husband and I both regret not going to Nigara Falls or to Canada. Maybe one day.
Response: It is a quiet street, but a very pleasant neighbourhood. You are right, Canada is a beautiful country. I used to live about 20 miles from Niagara Falls. Never tired of seeing the water. Some day - but there's always many places to visit, aren't there? cheers d.b.

Hi, I am one of your partners for the read and comment on your profile swap. We seem to have the same interest in music, especaily the Disco. i am addicted to Itunes the radio secrion they have over 1000 thousand internet radio stations to chose from but I always go to my 70's and 80's genre. I think collecting of glass is very interesting, it sounds like a great hobby. Do you find many pieces at estate sales? Take Care Jackie jcm716

Hi, I'm one of your partners for the Read and Comment swap. I see that you lead a very interesting life and love to travel. I would love to be able to travel also. Was it fascinating to live in Africa? I would love to visit, not so sure about living there.

Also, like you I have a love of the action movies and love to read. Have you ever read any Stephen King or Dean Koontz? They are among my favorites of all time. Of course I like any author with the same writing styles.

I hope you get to travel to your hearts content and wish you all the joy you deserve! Take care :)

HAHAHAHA In your first paragraph you said you collect all types of glass but the first time I read it I thought it said grass I was like WOW who collects grass and what would you do with it? LOL Anyways...A CEO for a library system huh? that must be really fun(atleast to some extent) what sort of things are you required to do? How did you get that job? I would love to own a book store one day...not quite the same thing butstill very neat.

Oh and BTW there is nothing wrong with being stuck in the 70's when it comes to music. My mom has taught me that some of the best music has come out of the 70's I am a total beatles fan!! OH MY! You and my mom would get along she is the biggest James Taylor fan I have ever met in my life LOL

Well anyways I enjoyed reading your profile. Feel free to keep in touch and happy swapping -Amanda Renee

Hi! thanks for the movie recommendation! And no, English isn't my motherlanguage ^^ it isn't even spoken in Belgium but we do got it in school. whoa, you lived in Africa? I'd love to go there someday!

Amigirl on Sep 17, 2010:

Hi! I'm one of your Read and Comment on Your Partner's profile Partners. This is my first swap, as I'm brand new to swap bot.

I see that you are also fairly new here, and it looks like you've jumped right in with both feet! You're a library CEO? That's fabulous. I spend quite a bit of time in my local libraries, and don't know how I'd afford my reading, craft book, and audio book habits without them! I also am a baby boomer, born in the last year of the baby boom. What's funny is that my mother is also a boomer, and was born in the first year of it!~ She had me at 18, so we're in the same generation, but we couldn't be more different.

I love to craft, right now I'm in a crochet phase, and love making and sharing my original amigurumis. I crochet a lot of other things, too. I also paint, quilt, and dabble in jewelry making and other crafts. I want to learn metal-working and stained glass making one day (perhaps when I retire in four years).

It's fascinating that you got to live in Africa for a while. I've lived abroad as well, in Heidelberg, Germany and Harrogate, England and Paris, France. I loved living in Europe and really miss it. I haven't had much of a chance to travel in the past decade, as I've been concentrating on my career (law enforcement).

I have a daughter in college, and a son finishing up high school. So I'm almost done! Whew, what a journey raising them alone was.

I have a much younger boyfriend for the past year, and that's going really well. I never dated a younger man before now, and I was really missing out! I love the energy and how he's still not so set in his ways as men my age seem to often be!

I have a beloved labrador also, who's been with me for 11 years. She's just about my best friend and so far, very healthy. I take careful care of her.

I'm so happy to have met you and hope we one day have a swap together! Keep in touch if you have the chance!

Love from, Amigirl

Thank you very much for the good wishes and the welcome. I think this is going to be fun. Although this is online social networking, I like this concept as it reminds me of the old-fashioned penpals that we all had when I was young.

I believe that everyday above ground's a pretty good day, so I look forward to having great weeks. I hope you do as well. cheers. d.b.
