About Me

***ATTENTION: I will be going home to Oregon for the month of December for Christmas break, and I will be unable to re-route my mail to my home address! I will not rate until I get back to school and check my mail, but please understand that I will not be able to check my mail again until the beginning of January! Thanks =)

I am currently desperately seeking: - address labels - an address book for my penpals - rubber stamps & mail art supplies

Hello =) My name is Rae and I'm a college student working towards an English major. I may also be interested in philosophy, languages, and classical literature... Anyway, I'm living in Seattle for now while I go to school. I have a puppy who is living with my parents (and whom I miss very much).

I love to write and have been keeping different sorts of journals for quite a while, though I tend to buy journals faster than I can fill them, haha. I love to write stories as well, and have participated in NaNoWriMo for the past four years or so.

I love to travel, and so far I've been to Canada, England, Ireland, Germany, Austria, and Italy. I'd love to add Iceland, Norway, Greece, France, Spain, and Peru to that list sometime!

Photography is one of my passions and I have a Nikon D40, which is plenty for my limited level of expertise. I'm considering getting a website and selling some of my prints, though right now I'm stuck on step 1: finding a name!

My big thing used to be swapping postcards all over the world, which I think is what really inspired me to travel. After seeing all these beautiful places in pictures, I had to go discover some of them for myself! More on postcards below...

Favorite books/music/TV/etc

I love to swap mix CDs and to discover new music. I have a rather varied taste in music (I think) and listen to pop, classic rock, rap, country, folk, instrumental (mostly piano & violin), and dance music.

I listen to these artists a ton: Keane, John Mayer, Augustana, [insert local country station], Jason Mraz, The Weepies, The Eagles & similar artists, etc...

I would love to receive music from any of the following artists:

  • Boyce Avenue
  • Mumford & Sons
  • Daft Punk
  • Massive Attack
  • Cake
  • Tiësto
  • Armin van Buuren
  • or your favorite CD!

As an English major, I do a TON of reading. Unfortunately, since I have so much required reading, I've had very little time to read anything that I've chosen. I would still love to receive books in swaps, however, as I can stockpile them away for summer reading!

I would love to receive:

  • The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
  • Any/all of the Mossflower books by Brian Jacques (RIP!)
  • Any of the following by Sarah Dessen: Lock & Key, Along for the Ride, and That Summer

I also like to cook, and am constantly searching for fun cookbooks (with plenty of pictures!) and cooking magazines are also totally welcome.

I don't watch too many movies, and I tend to like cheesy-ish romantic comedies, or comedies in general. I also like the occasional action flick or children's movie. If I have to choose a movie to watch, I usually pick something animated and funny (e.g. Rio or the Little Mermaid) or something vaguely inappropriate (e.g. The Ugly Truth or the Hangover). So there you go! =)

I'm very much in love with the show Psych. I also like Firefly, Bones, and South Park. I also started watching The Walking Dead recently and it's scaring me to death and I'm loving it =) Another show I love: Supernatural.

I would love Supernatural posters with Sam and Dean (perhaps even Cass?) looking angsty and hawt.

Crafts I sometimes attempt: - (art) journaling - sewing (e.g. bags, pouches, stuffies) - inchies - friendship bracelets - coloring (mostly in coloring books with crayons) - letter writing (does that count as a craft?) - mail art

Mostly, in my dorm room I have rather limited space for crafty endeavors, which is a shame! It has led me to devise a wonderful layout for the future home I will indubitably inhabit and PLENTY of storage for all the craft supplies I could possibly desire. Until then...

Craftwise, I would love to receive:

  • embroidery thread in bright colors (for bracelet making)
  • little silver charms (for bracelet making as well)
  • coloring books! I'm currently working on a Disney one with Bambi, Dumbo, Simba, and the crew =)
  • funky papers
  • blank OR filled journals
  • markers or pens
  • lettersets
  • stickers
  • fun fabrics
  • buttons (the sewing kind -- the funkier the better!)
  • ephemera for inchies/ATCs
  • rubber stamps
  • deco tape
  • anything that would help me to devise cool mail art!

  • chocolate and candy in general (I love trying foreign candy!)
  • frogs, elephants, horses, owls
  • nail polish!
  • CDs of your favorite music
  • earrings (studs or small danglies -- preferably silver)
  • fortune cookie fortunes
  • the colors grey, turquoise, and purple
  • notepads with pretty designs
  • Burt's Bees chapstick (I'm very very addicted!)
  • TEA -- I recently discovered that I really like tea. So far I've been really liking the fruity flavors (especially raspberry). I would love to try new flavors!!!

I love postcards with the following themes:

  • castles
  • lighthouses
  • city views at night
  • the northern lights (aurora borealis)
  • owls
  • elephants
  • mosques/cathedrals
  • ruins

Please no ad/free cards unless the swap requires them! Also, please no sharks or spiders. They really freak me out. Thanks!!

But postcards are boring without the notes that go along with them! I'd love to hear about your day, what you love, what you've been thinking about, something about your country/city/state, something that makes you happy, or whatever!

Thanks for rating me for the yellow mail art swap! I'd love it if you wrote back :) I just saw that you like Massive Attack - here is my really bad claim to some sort of fame... my dads cousins ex-wife (lol!!) did the vocals on Massive Attacks "Teardrop".

I'm glad you liked the postcard. It is one of my favourites too!
