It's been a while since I've done SB swaps and I'm excited to get back into it!
I love to make collages including postcards and ATCs, and I'm interested in small container art, like miniature dioramas and matchbox shrines. I would also like to explore more zines, stamping, and woodblock printing.
I enjoy spending time in nature, and living in Oregon gives us access to cities large and small, the beach, the high desert, mountains and forests.
I like puzzles, mysteries, labyrinths and ghost stories.
I'm hoping to use Swap Bot as a way to learn more about the people who are creating all of this wonderful art: I want to know peoples' stories, about their home towns, their favorite things, and how that is expressed thoughtfully through their work. I hope to bring some of that beauty into my own home, with work or objects I can wear or display.
I read a lot! Everything from Italo Calvino and Haruki Murakami, to Ursula K. LeGuin and William Gibson, to Charles Dickens and H. G. Wells.
The one book I can read again and again is Jane Eyre.
I recently read and loved Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, and The Night Circus.
I've also been revisiting the lush and mysterious books I read as a kid, that I think deeply influenced me: The Westing Game, The Eleventh Hour, etc.
I watch a lot of films too!
Some of my favorites include Brazil, Amelie, City of Lost Children, Pan's Labyrinth, District 9, Lost in Translation, and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.
I like horror movies that are suspenseful, but not gory--less Hostel, more Hitchcock.
I'm interested in supplies I can use to make art for future swapping, like origami or textured paper, washi tape, little canvases or picture frames, cool stamps with old-fashioned engraved style... (Not so much for buttons, pre-cut shapes, confetti, or scrapbook elements.) I would love to get some empty matchboxes or tins.
I'm not religious, so I won't be able to make good use of religion-themed materials.
I also like scented candles (florals including rose and jasmine, or citrus).
My favorite colors are muted or jewel tones, but I also like to be surprised by bright things, as long as they're pretty.
I love bees!
But: I tend to not like cartoony stuff, unless it's beautiful (like watercolors, or some anime) or super cute/sweet/kawaii, like Capybara-san.
My favorite aesthetic is eclectic. I dig Victorian, Art Nouveau, 1920s/30s, Anthropologie, phantasmagorical...
Halloween is my favorite holiday. I like most Halloween imagery, but I'm partial to the vintage stuff and cute modern design.
I'd love to know more about your home town or country, be it a note, a postcard, a magnet, a smashed penny or your favorite local candy. We also drink a lot of tea and I'd love to try your favorite!
I'm very interested in folklore and mythology, and love regional creatures like the chupacabra and Bigfoot. Tell me about yours?
