I'm a professional photographer and designer on the side. I live in Minneapolis with my lovely husband who deposits his socks -next- to the hamper, and our 3 year old son who is a total comedian. I admittedly love receiving gifts just as much as I like giving them, and supporting real artists and crafstwo/men in the process. I love earl grey tea, Settlers of Catan, fancy recipes, and my Holga. If I were a font I would be Helvetica Neue Condensed Bold 10 pt CAPS (see avatar). I have a kinesthetic memory, I see words in color, and I constantly strive for terseness and cogency.
Things I've made: Knit scarves, hats, Christmas stockings, and half of one knit mitten, skirts, blankets, quilts, earrings, necklaces, web sites, postcards, booklets, and one baby boy.
Things I would like to make: large metal sculptures, ceramic dishes, properly-bound books, music, and one baby girl.
Pavement, Ween, and Joanna Newsom.
Jeffrey Eugenides, H.P. Lovecraft, and William S. Burroughs.
Todd Solondz, Krzysztof Kieślowski, and Kevin Smith.
Tim & Eric, The Office (UK), and Top Chef.
I believe that the effort you put into your work shows in the details, details, details.
On one hand: clean lines, matte finish, natural materials, industrial, muted, wood and metal, simple, well constructed.
On the other: black and white with splashes of bold color, high gloss (never glitter), scribble, eclectic, vintage, complicated, brilliant, collage.
cocoa, found objects, handmade jewelry, quilts, 100% wool felt, re-purposed items, 100 lb paper, french pastries, irony, and conversation as art.
Here are some examples of Etsy sellers whose jewelery I am in love with, in case it helps:
