About Me

I am 40 years old and have a wonderful 18 year old son at home who just started his first semester of college. I work full time as a nurse. I have 2 cats that are 12 years old - brother and sister born from the same litter.

Favorite Books

Historical fiction is my absolute favorite! Some books that I have read and enjoyed:

  • Pillars of the Earth
  • Outlander
  • Zipporah, Esther, Sariah (wife of Moses)
  • The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek
  • Discovery of Witches
  • fantastical stuff like The Hobbit
  • thrillers of all kinds - Then She Was Gone, Bone Parade, and anything from Karin Slaughter.
  • Comics including: I Hate Fairyland comics (that's the name LOL but its great!)...and pretty much anything from Skottie Young including Middlewest, Bully Wars, Strange Academy *Farmhand, Bone Parish, Life is Strange, X-23, Wolverine
  • Audible listening
  • I read on my Kindle, buy books from Goodwill, or check out books from the library; occasionally I will buy a book from the actual bookstore

I Hate Fairyland

Favorite Entertainment

  • Zelda BOTW
  • The Witcher 3, Skyrim
  • Assassin's Creed (favs are Black Flag and Syndicate-currently enjoying Odyssey)
  • Mario anything
  • Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War
  • Far Cry 5
  • 80's cartoons/comics like Masters of the Universe, Garfield, Smurfs, Jem and the Holograms - I LOVE all thing 80's and early 90's!

Favorite Crafts

  • sewing (quilts, bags, mug rugs, key fobs, etc)
  • prayer cards
  • I don't really do paper crafts as I once was. When I do it's usually watercoloring or bible journaling
  • I no longer do a paper planner - I have officially switched to a reusable RocketBook and I love it!

As for my quilting style: I like more modern and tend to gravitate to colors other than pastels. I don't dislike pastels though. I am a very generous rater so if you are my quilt swap partner please just have fun in your process of quilting. Don't stress about whether or not I will like it. To me that takes out all of the fun in why we are quilting in the first place!

What I expect from SwapBot

I am hoping to connect with people from all over the world. I love learning about people and different ways of living other than my own. It is so much fun to receive happy mail, but without the people/stories behind it there wouldn't be as much joy and connection! Swapping should be fun and without stress, no drama, just loving, positive people trying to connect and grow!

My favorite things to receive are:

homemade items of ANY kind - sewn, crochet, knit, paper, written stories, poetry, drawings, etc.... I will always leave good feedback if you put effort in it and send it on time. I don't rate down if it isn't in my taste. I just pass it along to someone who I know would like it. I am very appreciative of anything I receive and get way more pleasure preparing and sending to you!

Likes (not limited to):

  • green (all shades) - I also really like coral, navy, purple
  • animals (except snakes and scorpions)
  • environmentally friendly/upcycling/re-using
  • no allergies to foods (love getting your local taste/snacks)
  • anything 80's early 90's cartoons
  • Marvel comics (or DC - Marvel just tends to be more of a favorite of mine)
  • video game related stuff
  • Christian related items (no other religions please)
  • For swaps that are thrift store based: any clothes or fabrics that are clean and are non-stretchy that can be used in my quilting or bag making is great. Any quilting templates that you find.
  • Fabrics - I am looking for yellows, tans that I can use in a pattern I am making that has sunflowers - 10x10 squares
  • Feel free to send me a good book that you recommend
  • I do like stationary for writing penpal letters and neat pens
  • anything that would be good for bible journaling
  • I love homemade watercolors
  • I keep thinking about learning to do hand stitching either embroidery or cross stitch - maybe both! Feel free to send anything to encourage either of those.
  • Kitchen towels (you can never have enough), crochet or knit dishcloths
  • homemade stuffies or homemade dolls or animals. I keep seeing these cute little things everyone is making and I am in love and want my own to name and love

Don't feel like you need to include "extras". Hearts are given because of effort or simply because I love it oh so much!

  • I don't have any allergies or sensitivities really but I don't like things that smell of cigarette smoke

Kirkdebb rated for NFSC: Drawstring Gift Bag on Oct 13, 2020
Comment: I absolutely love this gift bag you made for me! It is perfect! Thank you for being so considerate and using sunflowers! I will definitely use this pattern when making my swap. I showed my kids and they think I should make them some for Christmas instead of using stockings. I agreed with them that it would be much nicer for them to have goodie bags that can close and easier to carry around. Lots of bags in my future to make. Thank you also for the extra sunflower fabric! It was so nice to have a surprise in the bag!
Response: I am so glad you like it! It was a lot of fun to make.
