About Me

Hello!

I love sending mail and opening my mailbox to find a surprise but have slowed down on my swaps due to the disappointments I have experienced. I am way more selective. I am generous with my hearts and only ask that you put in some effort!

I paint (oil), am an amateur photographer, love music and poetry. I am very curious about the world and those who are in it and would enjoy another person's perspective on the every day. My over-used saying is that there is beauty in the breakdown. In other words, it's the every day details that give me the greatest joy.

I believe that all people, regardless of sex, sexual preferences, religion or race, deserve respect. Anything contrary will not be appreciated. Please do not send me anything religious in nature, I respect your beliefs but am not interested in discussing them.

I love all things vintage. Old paper dolls, cards, paper, envelopes etc. I have just started collecting stationary supplies such as stamps, wax seals and crafting paper. I have a HUGE collection of antique buttons and linens!

Please don't send food, candy or tea. I don't like things from the dollar store, plastic jewelry or cheap feeling items. I will not use generic printed (picture) envelopes unless really spectacular, preferring instead to make my own envelopes.

I am so looking forward to sharing and experiencing the joy of letters.

It kind of exasperates me to have to be specific but after a few swaps I see why everyone has such detailed profiles.... so see below.... G

Postcard Ideas

Black and white photography, landscapes, art, Victorian, architectural and the unexpected.

I don't really like multi views or printed off postcards. I spend a great deal of time hunting out cool and beautiful cards to send you, it would be nice to know you did the same.

Or if you wanted to create a postcard, I would love that! I have really enjoyed receiving recycled postcards made of book covers etc.

Swaps... Oh my!

I always send something special. I live for this stuff! I imagine you opening my swap and being excited and pleased.

I will not send you dollar store items. Old food or candy. I refuse to send you something I wouldn't want and I will NOT pass on those items to another swapper. Please, please... keep this in mind. I am not a junk deposit.

Letters

It amazes me how many swaps I get without a letter included. I love reading about your little corner of the world and am so disappointed when I open a package to a swap sans letter.

I always, ALWAYS send a letter. It doesn't mean you have to write back, but if you do that's wonderful too!

A letter, if thoughtful, will usually earn you a heart.

Friendship Books

Please don't send me these. I am careful about the weight of my packages due to postage charges, I weigh every letter prior to sending. I will not be using up space in my swaps to forward these on.

2015 Update

If anyone would like to do an "off the record" letter swap, I am open to that. Especially if we have swapped before.

Oh! Or REAL junk journals. I would love to exchange those. The kind where we use very little scrap book paper and include items (crap) from our day to day.

Just send me a message.

Comment: Thank you for the poems. I really enjoyed ""Race My Melancholy Heart." I also miss the days when I used to write all the time. I have children now, so I don't write as often as I used to. And when I look back on my old poetry, I fuss with it as well. I think it's because I write differently now, plus as an editor I can see all the mistakes I made or cliches I used then.
Response: So glad you enjoyed it. Hoping the typo copy didn't distract you too badly. (Read comment below.) Augh. The dreaded "life gets in the way of art". I found I wrote about those struggles when the kids were little, I was inspired by Robyn Sarah and Margaret Atwood. Two great Canadian poets, Maternal Femenism at its best. Happy writing!

Comment: Oh unrequited love, how I know thee...! Lol! Thank you for the beautiful poetry and the lovely letter! I really enjoyed reading both :D The poems are so powerful and gorgeous, they took my breath away! I've reread them a few times now and I can only love them more <3.
Response: Thank you. One of you ended up with the typo copy, only realized well after it was sent! Glad you enjoyed it despite them, if it was you. Thank you for your enthusiasm and kind rating. 💛💛

Comment: Thanks for your lovely letter and kind words. Yeah, it is hard when we have lost our loved ones, over the years the pain is still there...but life has to go on right. Anyway, thanks for the awesome selection of stamps and also for pasting so many nice ones on the cover! Appreciate it. Take care and "see" you around!

Comment: Thank you for the lovely letter, you have beautiful handwriting! The whole thing is absolutely gorgeous!!! Blomidon sounded very familiar so I asked my friend if I had been there and he said we passed it on the way to Split Point. We took the trip East years ago (there's more details of that trip in the letter I sent you for this swap 😊) so the details are fuzzy but I do remember it was all gorgeous 😍. I hope you enjoy my letter as much as I enjoyed yours!
Response: Cape Split! Some of the best (smoothest) stones are found on a beach close by. I picked wild mushrooms on the way to Cape Split and then had to be careful not to crush them the entire way back. Sigh! Thank you for your rating! 🍄

Comment: Gabrielle sent a notecard & letter, plus some cat-themed goodies. It was lovely to read about Gabrielle's shared interests, and the postcards were especially cute.
Response: Glad you enjoyed it. Any opportunity to send mail to a fellow "cat lady"! Thank you for your rating. 😊

Response: Wow, when Canada Post wants to, things move fast! I love that notecard too, that's why I couldn't bring myself to write in it. So pleased you enjoyed it all. See you in the post!

Comment: Wow! I'm so very lucky you got my name to send to. I am in love with the envelope, the letter, and all the goodies. I feel spoiled, and I like it! :) You can count on hearing back from me but it might be a couple months...finishing up school and going to Europe in the next 8 weeks is going to eat up my time. I'll let you know when I mail though. Thanks so much for the most thoughtful package. ❤
Response: So glad you feel spoiled! I enjoyed putting it together, call it celebrating another "bit" collector. So jealous about Europe but looking forward to hearing about it and all the treasures you bring back!

Comment: I loved the way you started your letter. Like you have written to me before. Your home sounds beautiful and amazing and I wanted to say. I loved your paper. You will have to tell me the address or company again that you got it from. I love they way it feels too. Thanks for the extras.
Response: Hello! The paper is Tomoe River, I purchased it from a shop in Toronto but I know you can buy it in the US. Just Google it! You are most welcome for the extras... thank you for rating. :)

Response: Welcome! A couple of the photos turned out ok. Have you seen the one with the Hulk peeing on the side of a building with his other superhero buddies? So funny!

I think I owe you a letter. I haven't been able to figure out who wrote last. I'll send you a pic of my craft room/desk and you'll understand why (and probably call the authorities on me). I'll write this week. ; )

HELLO! I'm not dead, I was just in the US. Just got home a couple of hours ago. Your* letter arrived, and I have answered it but I didn't quite manage to get it into the mailbox before I left**. But it will be on its way tomorrow. awesome poison ivy and ear infection, not laziness ***my son, not me, but I had to get him straightened out so we could all leave town in time.

Thank you for the wonderful hexagon mail. I love hexagons, how did you know? :) I thoroughly enjoyed reading your letter (and feeling the velvety Tomoe River goodness between my fingers). Haha. I will be commenting on the rest in my reply...many thanks for the happy mail, G!

I'm looking, I'm looking - but there's so much eye candy. That grey kitty, for just one example...I'll look some more, but my head might explode from calligraphy envy. No sweat about the journal, at all. Have a wonderfully relaxing long weekend in Tofino. So gorgeous there!

rexypants on Apr 29, 2015:

And now I'm curious about Tomoe River paper. Wonder if Paper Ya carries it?

Shannoneke on Apr 22, 2015:

Hi! I didn't realize they stopped teaching cursive! They taught us in school starting it grade 3, but they never really enforced it much, try as I might, my cursive is a sloppy mess after just a few words!!

rexypants on Apr 21, 2015:

Hey G! I'm glad the envie made it to you (one of these days, I'll manage to type your street address correctly!). Found the braille paper at Urban Source Alternative Art Supplies on Main St. in Vanc http://www.urbansource.bc.ca/. I don't get there as often as I'd like, but any visit is always filled with surprise finds. I've had some kraft braille paper sent to me by an awesome swapper - love this kind of stuff. Oh, and I'm not worthy but thank you for the compliments. I'm still smiling from the mail you sent me!!
