I moved in January 2021 to be a live-in assistant for a person who needs a bit of help every day. It's an adjustment, and I'm very grateful for having productive work! I have some ideas to generate part-time work to supplement that.
Besides crafting, I like to:
I did all these activities before COVID, and have fallen back on them as good things to do even more often in isolation. The thing I miss most about the shut down is #1 seeing my 4 adult children (and SOs) in person, and #2 going to coffee shops for an afternoon with my laptop. Well, and the job I had that I liked a lot, but that seems to be a thing of the past.
I'm writing my first novel, and I'm in the research phase. My goal is to have a robust outline for NaNoWriMo next fall. There are lots of things to learn a bit about:
I'm currently learning about character arcs, which involves identifying the characters' mistaken beliefs, unsuccessful attempts to get what they think they need (but actually just want), their self-discovery of this flaw, and their difficult, but successful, journey to growth.
Also I'm studying several personality systems to give me ideas to make characters distinct from each other: Enneagram, MBTI, and Clifton Strengths.
I love hand drawn images, especially that tell a story or convey a feeling. Also watercolor. My favorite patterning is batik, and wax resist on watercolors. I guess I love what I can't make!
My favorite color palettes vary quite a bit. Some current favs:
OTHER CRAFTS: I like to make collages -- ATCs, and larger formats.
I'm just making some bound books, some to be journals, some to be flow journals. Exciting! Last fall (2020), I listed this as an aspiration! I made a flow journal for my daughter-in-law for Xmas. That was a new thing for her, and she said it knocked her out of her comfort zone to journal in it, and she liked that. I included part of a poster of my son from his college dance days, and she got a big kick out of that -- it really warmed her up to the idea of a funny hand-crafted journal.
I'm finally willing to put my hand to drawing, and then sharing it. All those drawing books claim ANYONE can draw....
My favorite themes or images are mixed media collage, dogs, star bursts, ocean, true-to-life plants, landscapes, water-color-ish anything.
Did I mention watercolor? haha
Unfortunately I am allergic, so please send NO SCENTS or PERFUMES.
