Description:

This swap was inspired by a swap created by AmericanHeiress who graciously gave me the nod to post it. US only due to postage.

For this swap you will purchase or make a blank journal of at least 50 pages (a page = one side, so a journal with 25 sheets would have 50 pages) and decorate each page (or at least 50 pages if the journal has more than 50 pages). Decorate is a loose term for doodles, stickers, washi, written journal prompts, journal art, bullet journal templates, anything that would delight you if it was in the journal you received. The journal does not have to be a three-ring journal like that featured in the swap image. If you aren't already hand making journals, you might not want this project to be your prototype. Hand making journals well is time-consuming and not for the faint-hearted. I'm in the middle of hand making two and neither would be a good option for this swap.

Each page should have considerable space for your swap partner to use for journaling. For me, 75% journaling space (with 25% decorating) would be ideal.

You'll receive your partner at the end of August and have more than three months to decorate the journal pages and send it. Senders choice for decorating, but please consider your swap partner's profile when decorating, with a goal of a combo of your art and what your partner likes.

If you receive a journal with at least 50 pages decorated your rating should be a 5, even if all 50 pages aren't to your taste. This is "Have an open mind and loving heart" swap. Each page should show that an effort was made. You have four months to complete and send this swap and I specifically chose the four-month "incubation period" so that there would be time to make an effort on each of the 50 pages. It's not a race and there's no prize for sending first. At the same time, if you are up to your ears in handmade/decorated journals and have one that would be a good fit for your partner, it's also ok if you send it on September 1.

I've had some disappointing flakes lately (well, aren't they all disappointing?) so you must have a what I consider a high 4.99 rating - no more than one 1 or 3 and that rating should explain itself with your response. You must also have participated in at least 25 Type 3 swaps at the time partners are assigned.

This is a big responsibility as we head into the holiday months, so please give some thought as to whether you'll be able to add decorating a 50-page journal to what is usually the busiest season of the year. I am unable to angel for this swap.

May it be a handmade journal? I book smith my own journals, self taught but you can see some of my creations on my Instagram.

Secondly, a page is considered? Per paper = 1 or per paper = 2 front/back

Good questions - yes, it can be handmade and a page is considered one side, so a 25-page journal would actually have 50 sides. I'll edit the swap info accordingly.

So this is to make a journal for our partner to use -- we will not be making personal entries, just making the pages interesting/beautiful/inspiring, etc? Is that correct? And is there an ideal size for each page?

Having four months in which to make this journal is very generous.

SeleneW 08/ 4/2019 #

I have to agree with @junemoon on the point about four months being generous I would be afraid it might misplace it or forget about the swap. It does seem very fun though.

@junemoon - yes, you will make a journal for your partner to use and, for the most part, you will not add person entries. I've done this before with friends and on some pages with journal prompts I would add a comment or two.

@SeleneW - My thinking about the timing: #1 it's an end of the year/new year gift journal, something to start 2020 with; #2 My personal schedule for the holidays means that I hope to finish by early November (and I'll need all that time to finish by then), giving myself some time for last minute adds. You're welcome to send any time you finish and rate if you receive earlier than December. #3 I posted now because I was worried I'd forget details and questions and comments like yours are keeping me honest ;-)

I am SUPER excited about this swap! It looks like so much fun and I appreciate having so much time!

I absolutely love this swap idea and four months is the perfect time to make a quality product for your partner. I already have ideas piling up for this swap!

Excited for this one! Once I read my partners profile I’ll decide what type of stickers, etc., to affix to the pages. 🙂

I have a journal I bought and never started a nice 8X10 planner. I think it was just so structured it intimidated me! In reading these comments I will have fun decorating it to someone's style and interests. This is going to be a fun one!

I am making a 56 page journal and am trying to decide whether or not to go with decorating 50 out of 56 because it is over 50 pages. Or to use the 25% decorated out of 56 which would be 14 pages of which I have already surpassed. Doh!

After some thought, I am putting something on each page but some pages will have more than others.
