Description:

The purpose of this swap is to find pen pals for our kids. This will be a very simple and straightforward swap. Each child will write one letter and receive one letter so they should be able to connect with two pen pals (since they are writing to one child and receiving from another).

The requirements of this swap will be filled when your child receives his or her letter, but hopefully the children will continue to write back and forth and make a long term pen pal! The age requirements of the child are between 8 and 13. I don't want to be really strict with the ages. The idea is that they can write well but are close enough to each other in age to share common interests. The first introductory letter should be at about a page long and your child should tell about him/herself ( interests, hobbies, their town, school, family, ect.)

Newbies may join, no one with 1's or 3's in the last six months. This swap is for kids so DON'T FLAKE! Please don't join unless you know this is something your child is interested in doing. If anyone has any questions please ask.

Also everyone should leave their child's name in the comment section below when you sign up

I have 3 children, but my daughter, Annika, is most interested in letter writing and actually getting a reply! She will be 8 years old in July, and is currently in 2nd grade. Her class is currently writitng letters to family, but she hasn't gotten a reply yet.
She writes very well and clearly, and is very interested.

What a great idea for a swap zencupcake! I only have a fur child and his writing isn't all that great so I am gonna have to skip this one! LOL Good luck!!!

VallesAvallonis 04/25/2010 #

I have to agree - @zencupcake this is a great idea, and my SD will have a lot of fun with this! My only minimal concern is if a 13 y.o. gets paired up with a 7 or 8 y.o. That is a HUGE age difference in kid years. Either way - lol still love the idea!!

I'm joining for my little brother, Nick. He's 10. I hope it's okay that I join for him. He always loves to read the penpal letters I receive, so I think this would be perfect for him.

zencupcake 04/25/2010 #

My daughter is 9 and her name is Rayle.

@APlusAmigurumi yes it's fine to join for your lil bro

stephanie0002 04/26/2010 #

My son is 10 (Samuel) and my daughter is 8 (Maggie). They would both love a pen pal. Thanks

My daughter is 10 and her name is Masa.

My sister is 13 & interested in mail art and letter writing. This seems like a great swap but I agree with VallesAvaIlonis 8 year olds and 13 year olds are DRASTICALLY different.

I know this may be confusing and it makes rating hard - but if everyone gives zencupcake your child's name and age - she can pair up the kids according to age after the partners are assigned (or even before). That way people can sign-up more than one child, too.

I did this once before with a round-robin swap. It was tricky a first - but eventually worked out. You may end up having to rate someone else - but you can contact the person who actually got a letter from that person and rate them as they would have. For the people you actually get letters from you can add comments on the users page. We could also all let zencupcake know when we have received our letters and she could also keep a running list of letters received here and we can all check here to see how to rate the others.

I am probably making this way too complicated. But I thought I would offer the suggestion.

I am signing up for my son, Jackson, who is 11.

jj9jj 04/26/2010 #

I will help you with re-assigning partners if you want...

jj9jj 04/26/2010 #

Another thought (and perhaps easier) is to split this into 2 swaps Ages 8-10 and 11-13. That way people can sign up a kid in each swap and the age range is smaller.

zencupcake 04/26/2010 #

@jj9jj That was what I had in mind ( pairing up kids of similar ages). I will also try to pair up people with two kids with each other so that should take care of that issue.

zencupcake 04/26/2010 #

@jj9jj also thank you for the offer to help. very kind! I'll let you know if I need it.

jj9jj 04/26/2010 #

The problem is that Swapbot doesn't give you any say in the pairing. But I am sure everyone will go along with whatever you do.

zencupcake 04/26/2010 #

ahhh well I can work out the issue with to make sure all kids get a letter

starfire724 04/28/2010 #

thank you zencupcake for putting this together!
My son, Nicholas, is 12 and my daughter, Hannah, is 8. I have a little blurb about them on my profile. They'll be the most excited!

mimom 04/29/2010 #

I have two daughter that would love to write to someone close to their ages-Fatima is 13 & Semeeah is 11....we would LOVE international pals (we're in the US).Thanks! :)

zencupcake 04/30/2010 #

If anyone's child would like to send 2 letters instead of 1 please let me know and I will assign them to one of the extra kids from the partners with 2, keep in mind you will not get an extra rating out of this but hopefully everyone writes back so they will get another pen pal out of the deal!

imaventriloquist 05/ 3/2010 #

My daughter is really excited about this swap and hopes to be paired up with someone around the same age. She is 11 y.o., is very creative and loves to visit new places, writing and candy. Thanks for hosting the swap Zencupcake!

irenns 05/ 5/2010 #

hi, my eldest son Naim is 8. he loves writing & drawing. he loves getting letters. we're in Malaysia.

AnaBella 05/ 8/2010 #

Hi, both my girls would love to have penpals - Isabella is 9 (born '01) and Anastasia is 10 (born '99).

Maybe everyone w/2 participating kids could have one child receive and the other child send, depending on a bit of luck it might work in regards to pairing up kids of similar age - and both would get to write - this should be likely to work, if we're paired up with different sent-to and receive-from partners and we PM each other before going ahead and have the kids write the letters.

melzenitram 05/ 8/2010 #
