Description:

I want to do a Happy Holidays swap that allows us lots of creativity and a chance to try a number of things suggested by many of you in the group ideas thread. This is what I came up with:

From only one sheet of double sided scrapbook paper, make one of these cute little mini books with pockets for your partner (this tute is provided as a starting point only).

ADDED OCT. 2: If you prefer printed instructions, look here. This book is made basically the same way as in the other tutorial, it is just bound/finished differently.

Decorate your book as you like and then fill each of the 8 pockets with one little thing.

Please note for filling the pockets:

  • At least two pockets must contain a handmade item and you may use any materials and any techniques you like.
    AND
  • One pocket must contain a Christmas/Holiday wishes note to your partner.
    AND
  • The other 5 pocket items may be purchased or handmade - sender's choice.

Ideas for filling the pockets:
- embellishments, e.g., paper flowers, rhinestone stickers, chipboard shapes, etc.
- die cuts
- fun ribbon, string, yarn, thread, etc.
- buttons
- gift tags
- ornaments
- mini envelopes
- clear stamps
- a special message, poem, saying, etc.
- stamped images
- brads
- ATCs
- inchies/twinchies
- tiny zine
- beads
etc.

This is supposed to be a little Happy Holidays gift for our partner, so please gift wrap it. Tissue paper is light and this should not cost a lot to mail anyway.

I see this as having 2 possible themes:

  • Merry Christmas (secular only, no religious theme please)
    OR
  • HAppy Winter (nothing specific to Christmas per se)

If you have a preference, please post your chosen theme below. If not, it will be sender's choice.

I have set the dates early in the hope that everyone will receive their swaps before the holiday rush and well in time for the holidays.

Please pm me if you have any questions as I do not check my swaps every day. Thx.

I prefer a Merry Christmas theme please and thx.

Paige1900 08/15/2011 #

YAY!!!! I will be moved and settled with a new address by this time and this is a cool swap!!! I like Merry Christmas please!!! (however; please keep it as stated above secular only, no religious please).

toothteri 08/19/2011 #

Christmas or winter theme would be fine for me

YooperHill 08/19/2011 #

Christmas or Winter....

dkay 08/22/2011 #

Question: Are there instructions to print out or is there only this UTube tute?

Christmas for me please.

PJ 08/27/2011 #

Hi, love these little booklets. If you wanted to, would be happy for it to be religious Christmas theme. But only if my partner is comfortable doing it that way. I think my preference would be winter rather than a totally secular Christmas . . .

Wanda 09/ 2/2011 #

Oh, this is such a cute, clever little project! I will definately join if I get to Hobby Lobby (50 miles away) before the deadline. I searched through my stash and only two of my scrapbook papers are double sided and neither are right for Christmas/winter. If I am able to join, I'd like a Christmas theme, please. And like PJ said, I, too, would be very happy for it to have a religious theme if my partner is comfortable doing it that way.

TerryF 09/23/2011 #

While this won't necessarily help your colour theme, you can always make your own double sided paper: either glue 2 sheets back to back, or decorate the blank side with stamps, pencil crayon, paint, stencils, etc.

TerryF 09/23/2011 #

If people are open to a religious theme, and their partners have no problem making them that way, that is perfectly fine. Just make sure, as PJ and Wanda did above, to provide an alternative in case your partner is not comfortable with the religious theme. Thx. (";)

I'll be joining as soon as I have completed a few swaps. I'd prefer Winter!

Paige1900 09/28/2011 #

Johnny Depp in a Santa Suit for me please....or not in a Santa Suit. ; )

TerryF 10/ 3/2011 #

I just edited this swap to provide a printable tute as well as a video one.

heavenscreations 10/ 4/2011 #

I am having no fun finding any Christmas paper but have some awesome silver paper. Can we use wrapping paper on one side 'altering' a non Christmas to a Christmas?

Thank you Terry (BTW I am addicted to these and everyone at Christmas will be getting one with pictures of the family in them)

clkea 10/ 4/2011 #

Christmas or winter theme for me. Either would be wonderful!

TerryF 10/ 5/2011 #

heavenscreations:

Yes you may.

The stores seem to be slow getting out their scrapbooking Xmas paper this year, and double sided is even harder to find.

As I mentioned in an earlier comment above, "you can always make your own double sided paper: either glue 2 sheets back to back, or decorate the blank side of a single sheet with, for example, stamps, pencil crayon, paint, stencils, etc.".

Whatever works for you is fine as long as both sides are decorated. (";)

spotteddogs 10/ 6/2011 #

Any theme is fine by me!!! @Taco5518 - Where do you get naked Johnny Depp paper ..... ;) ???

TerryF 10/ 8/2011 #

Cut and paste 10 or 20 times...

TerryF 10/ 8/2011 #

By the way, if the above photo offends anyone, let me know and I will remove it. (";)

veltheimia 10/13/2011 #

Either Winter or Christmas (or naked Johnny Depp) theme is ok for me!

gooseberry 10/13/2011 #

Once again, I've never made a little booklet like this (I've been doing new types of swaps in this group. yay!)

If possible, could I have a Winter Solstice themed booklet? Or Winter in general would do...I love all aspects of Winter (or any season, actually) and would happily accept Pagan/Nature-based decorations. I do love Christmas (religious and secular-based) but I don't have too many Winger Solstice things. Thank you!

My husband and I will celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary on Winter Solstice this year. ♥

nermalski 10/13/2011 #

I'm joining as I stockpile double sided card stock. I would love a nativity, religious theme if my partner is comfortable with it. Otherwise I love Santa and snowman as well. Or just plain winter. Really anything is good.

neca84 10/14/2011 #

Christmas theme for me please ,, Christmas is Summer here in Australia

PenguinParade 10/14/2011 #

My only preference is non-religious. Other than that, Christmas, Winter, Solstice, etc I am happy with :)

heavenscreations 10/14/2011 #

I love surprises and would be excited and thrilled to receive anything within the theme of winter or Christmas.

Paige1900 10/19/2011 #

Okay...I am REALLY loving this swap. My mini-book has turned into a small novella though... : )

gooseberry 10/22/2011 #

I just noticed my partner who is not @neca84 is also in Australia. I guess it will be a surprise to see if I get an Australian Summer or an American Winter...

gooseberry 10/22/2011 #

Well...since I asked for a Winter Solstice booklet, that might be what I receive, haha! They will be celebrating Summer Solstice...

All this other side of the world stuff is like being in another dimension, haha! ♥

TerryF 10/26/2011 #

I know. I received an "autumn" themed handmade envelope from neca84 recently, and it had Easter bunnies and eggs on it. It took me a few seconds to realize that Easter in Australia happens in their fall season. lol

gooseberry 10/27/2011 #

Is anyone else having trouble finding Christmas/Winter themed double-sided scrapbook paper? I went all over Savannah today looking for it and can't find it! The stores told me to come back next week, but it will be too late then! :(

TerryF 10/27/2011 #

When I set the dates for this swap, I guess I assumed everyone was a packrat like I am and always had everything handy already! lol I could open a store in my basement craft room.

You can make your own double-sided paper for this swap:

Have you got any Christmas wrapping paper hanging around from last year? I have also seen it already in the dollar stores up here. If you have 2 kinds, just glue one to each side of a piece of plain scrapbooking paper.

Or you could use plain paper in a Christmas colour and add some Christmas stickers and/or stamping to both sides of it.

There's also tons of free Christmas scrapbooking paper patterns online. They only print out at 8.5" x 11" but you could creatively piece a few sheets together and back to back.

Finally, most dollar stores now have their Christmas gift bags out - buy 2 large ones in different but matching patterns, cut a sheet from each, and glue those together.

Hope this helps!

gooseberry 10/27/2011 #

Thank you!!! And oops! I do see where this was addressed before! Sorry and thank you so much for the suggestions. :) I've only ever bought one other book of scrapbook paper and that was 2 weeks ago. :)

Paige1900 11/ 1/2011 #

I loved this SWAP!!!! It would be awesome to do one in the summery months as well!
