I am a recent Law school graduate who hopes to work in education, community art and social justice issues. I live in the pacific northwest and I love the rain. I am very happily married to a video game freak. My name is the product of a very hippie mother. I am not Japanese. I do like video games and have taken a liking to the Mario Brothers and especially the Yoshi character because we share a name. I play video games when I have spare time, the tv is used almost exclusively for gaming, no cable, only pbs comes in, so I don't watch much TV.
I have always loved fabric art. In another lifetime, I studied costume design and still love to create using fabric. About a year ago I began crocheting amigurumi which has been lots of fun. I have also been doing a lot of small quilting projects (and using all these tiny scraps of fabric). Lately my creative life has been filled with making bags and pouches (you can check out some of the totes I made for an auction on my blog).I basically like to do any kind of craft that involves fiber art.
My style tends to be modern/hippie chic. I love handmade items and I am not opposed to gently used or upcycled things.
My tastes are varied, although my favorite colors are blue and green, I like almost all colors, muted and bright. I especially like unusual color combinations (red and purple, blue and brown, blue and orange, etc). I guess I don't really like pink unless it is combined with a muted drab color (I generally don't like really feminine/girly items). I really like giraffes and monkeys, but I tend to crochet a lot of elephants and penguins (so maybe I really like these too). Lately I have been really into video game crafts, especially Mario Bros. Really anything, I like just about everything (except of course the things I have listed under "don't like" ha ha).
I LOVE COFFEE!!! and black tea. I could drink hot coffee or black tea with milk and sugar all day and I often do.
Small pouches and baskets for keeping trinkets in (they can sit on tables or hang on the walls).
A beginners needle felting kit.
Nice quality bento stuff is always appreciated.
Small leftover balls of yarn for amigurumil. Fingerling or sock weight is what I am really in need of right now, but worsted is always appreciated.
FQs (or other yardages) - asian inspired, modern prints, interesting prints (broccoli, owls, planets), solids.
Small scraps of fabric (I use 1"x1" pieces for my quilts, so anything that can be cut into that size will be used).
Purse/bag making supplies both big and small (handles, magnetic snaps, purse frames, pinch purse frames, zippers).
Reusable grocery bags (someone broke into my car and took about 10 bags that I had been slowly making and collecting).
Small notecards (handmade or store-bought)
Unique necklaces I can wear to work (professional attire) although I figure a necklace can be a little interesting, just not to out there or hippyish (like macrame). I would especially love some pendants with steampunk, nature, Asian themes or social justice themes (see below).
Anything with a legal/social justice theme. For example, anything incorporating the blind lady of justice, the Ghandi quote "You must be the change you want to see in the world," or the United States Constitution.
I don't really like religious items (although I am not opposed to Buddhist or eastern religious relics).
I am not huge on holiday items (like 4th of July, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentines Day, St. Patrick's Day, etc.) or seasonal items (snowmen, heart prints). I just don't really celebrate and have no use for things that just come out once a year. I also don't really like patriotic themed items. It is not because I am unpatriotic, I appreciate my good fortune to be a citizen of such a great (although flawed) country, its just not my style.
I don't like hats. They make my head itch and I can never wear them for more than a few minutes.
I don't like things with brand names or logos on them. I try not to advertise for mass manufacturers of goods. I instead prefer handmade or plain (kinda funky looking is okay).
My husband loves video games (especially older ones), the Simpsons, Family Guy and The Lord of the Rings (he is named after one of the Hobbits, Peregrin Took, often called Pippin in LOTR). He is short and round, kind of shaped like a hobbit and I think he is adorable. His favorite color is green and he loves lounging around in comfy pajama pants and hooded sweatshirts.
For scarves, he would love something with a Mario Mushroom on it or a Slytherin scarf (from Harry Potter).
I have never received:
A profile grab bag tag from weeatcrayons. I tagged her for this item on January 5th, 2010.
Newbies First Profile Swap (this was my first snail mail swap and I was soooooo disappointed). I was flaked on by fabulouslytarnished.
