My name is Ana. I live in a suburb of Austin, Texas. I'm a big grammar nerd; my dream profession is becoming an editor for a newspaper or magazine. For now, I'm a QA specialist at a marketing agency.
I was born in the wonderful city of Chicago but spent a major portion of my life in Austin. It's tough choosing between two beautiful and fun cities, but driving in the Chicago snow tipped the scale.
I'm pretty liberal and a big advocate for women's rights/feminism, as well as other marginalized groups of people. A couple of years ago I decided to concentrate volunteering with organizations that deal with issues that are important to me.
I used to only swap ATCs on Swap-bot, but I've gotten more and more into other paper crafts and letters/writing swaps. I'm all for living simply these, so I am trying to get more into swapping supplies I already own (i.e., stationery, craft supplies) so as not to purchase more while having duplicates of certain items.
I studied abroad in Spain for a semester and love all things Spanish. While I was there I explored Paris, Florence, and Rome, which I loved. I've only traveled solo to Toronto, Canada, and loved every minute of it. It was an accomplishment for me and liberating. Last year I went to Peru, saw Machu Picchu and the Amazon. We'll see what's in store next.
I love art history. Edgar Degas and Jesus Helguera (Mexican calendar artist) are my favorites. I can appreciate modern artists, too (i.e. Banksy).
Vintage patterns really catch my eye. Vibrant colors are great! Romantic and rustic styles are fantastic, too. My favorite at the moment seem to be the rustic Jim-Holtz–type of design. Favorite colors are: royal blue and bright yellow.
I was a vegetarian for 8 years, but now I'm a pescatarian.
I have a boyfriend, David, of almost a year, and he's amazing.
Music I love: Mostly female singers (i.e. Missy Elliott, Lady Gaga, Sia, Adele, Kate Nash, Cat Power, Jaymay, Regina Spektor, Etta James, Lilly Allen, Estelle, Billie Holiday, Madeleine Peyroux, Lauryn Hill, Melody Gardot, etc). John Legend, Juanes, Los Secretos, Pink Martini, Reverend Horton Heat, The Stray Cats...pretty mixed. NO country!
Authors: Roxane Gay, David Sedaris, Chuck Palahniuk, Augusten Burroughs, Pablo Neruda, Natalia Sylvester, Lindy West, John Boyne, Samantha Irby, Junot Diaz, Wally Lamb, Jami Attenberg, Rainbow Powell, Mindy Kaling, Jenny Lawson, Maria Semple, Laurie Notario, Hubert Selby Jr.,
Foreign flicks, especially British, French, and Spanish films. I love Tarantino's work. I heart Almodovar as well. I don't really like typical, predictable plots.
Master of None, New Girl, The Mindy Project, The Walking Dead, Workaholics, Jane the Virgin, Downton Abbey, Call the Midwife, Orange Is the New Black, Broad City, Inside Amy Schumer, Bob's Burgers, Adventure Time, Drunk History, Louie
Scrapbooking, painting with acrylics, collages. Knitting and hand-embroidery (beginners for both). I'm trying to push myself to use my sewing machine finally. I like other paper crafts, too.
I'm not a huge fan of Kawaii. Grape flavoring can go die under a rock somewhere (I like real grapes, though). Incense gives me a headache.
