Hi,
My name is Richard. I am a nursery school teacher and an amateur musician from the United Kingdom. I love to make things, give them and swap them, but don't know so much about this site just yet. I am hoping to get involved in some swaps that encourage me to develop my rudimentary artistic skills. I was born in Scotland but now live in England.
I love rats, cats, music (grunge, electronic and lots more). I love my guitars and keyboards - oh yes and of course my lovely children too!
I have lots of favourite bands and singers, some well known and some obscure. Rickie Lee Jones is probably my favourite ever. I also would love to be able to write music like Beck and Eels. I love the grit of Tom Waits but the sweetness of the Carpenters. Abba brings back memories of childhood but Soundgarden, Audioslave, Dinosaur Jr. and The Pixies are good for when I am feeling energetic.
I really like electronic music - Bat for Lashes, Bjork, Portishead, Tricky, Amon Tobin. Basically, if it has been recorded, I'll listen to it at least once.
I love all kinds of collage. I enjoy experimenting with tissue paper to create layers of colour. I especially like children's book illustration, particularly Eric Carle and Ezra Jack Keats. I like making my own postcards and artist trading cards and although I am not that good I am always practicing and trying to get better. Most of all I like writing and recording music and would like to swap some of that with someone else!
I am a geek at heart and love all kinds of comic and comic art. My favourite is Calvin and Hobbes.
But I also like comics from the seventies and eighties. My favourite is:
Things I Like...
The Moomins (loved the books since I was small)
Seventies and eighties Nostalgia (games, books, TV shows, films...)
Music!
Macrame (inherited love for this from my mum and aunt, though I guess it's a bit out of fashion now)
photography (but I'm really bad!)
Children's toys - especially Playmobil and Lego
Mouse Guard
So, even though I have not taken part in a swap using this site before, I am really keen to prove I can do it on time and please people with what I send out. I have been looking at how things work round here and I think I might have the hang of it. It would be great if someone would give me a hand if I need it, so I'm hoping to meet some kind people!
I would like to meet some new people from other countries who want to keep in touch through Facebook, so please - send friend requests!
I'm going to keep adding to this profile as I have been advised to help when it comes to swapping. Thank you so much for the welcome I have received so far. I really feel at home.
Comments
Cat are one of my very favorite things (oh, and my kids). LOL Welcome!
It is stuff I have made. Thank You so much for the kind words. : ) There are somethings that I am pretty good with...other things..UHM....not so much LOL
Thank you for the compliments about the paper dolls. I haven't made any more, but they were fun and I might try it again some time. I hadn't even looked at my Flickr pictures in a long time...had to update a comment on one of the dolls. Life just doesn't go the way one thinks, sometimes...but it's always an adventure. :)
I have worked with little ones...pre-school (nursery school over here in America) and have taught 1st Grade (6-7 year olds) and Kindergarten (5-6 year olds.) Most recently, I've been a Nanny to private families. Life sort of took a huge detour for me, though...and I'm not currently working with children at the moment (I work in the floral department of a large supermarket) but I do miss working with children. Maybe again one day. I am off from work for a while, though, having had surgery on my foot and another on my other foot in the near future. So...yes, as I said, life has taken a big detour...but it's still lovely. :)
Thank you for the comments on my Flickr pictures. I need to upload more. Hey! I just saw you like MacramΓΒ©. I took lessons as a pre-teen. I love it, too! haha! (I guess it is old fashioned now...but well, so am I.)
Oh, my goodness! @Paige1900 is an exaggerator...I only stalk gently. ;) (she has been following me around for years now...we even met in person! She's just jealous because I live in a prettier town than she does.)
hee hee. ;)
Of course you are welcome to visit my profile any time. Beware of Paige's though...an octopus may grab you! (she is half octopus herself, and she adores them.)
Oh dear! Stalkers already. Wow ;-) I'll watch out for her.
Thank you for my welcome messages. It's really nice to be in a new place with new people. I'm going to check out your profiles too, if that's OK!
Beware of Goosey...she is a stalker!
There she is again! She's just enamored with me. ;) (Paige and I are good friends...so don't worry about her stalking me. I'm getting used to it.)
;P
Welcome!!! I love cats, too...and I've had pet rats before and they were absolutely lovely and gentle little pets. I miss them as they've all gone to rattie heaven now.
A fun collage group is Cut + Paste @stephiedee who runs it is lovely.
We have a lot in common! I LOVE children's books (having worked with children for 24 years) and love Eric Carle, too. Tomie dePaola is another favorite, but my all time favorite is Beatrix Potter. :)
Welcome, welcome! I hope you have fun here.
