About Me

Quote for 2019 "Be generous with your love & time. Life is usually chaotic and rarely fair."

Quote for 2018: "Make Something Everyday!"

I am a maker with a vulnerability to boredom. I have to try to make and do different things all the time. Rearrange the furniture, try a new type of cuisine, learn a new skill - I just need to mix it up.

I am an advocate for making, creating and doing in any form. This makes me sound prolific and energetic but I am not as productive as I would like :)

I am very happy to have found this site! When I joined up it was all about getting enough ratings to swap ATCs and other art forms. Through swapbot, I have been introduced to minizines which are amazing. I have been happily distracted by washi tape and postage stamp swaps. Also, homemade envelope swaps are an unexpected favourite, as well as, all the journal tidbits. I am happy to have discovered those with a love of poetry. There is so much creativity out there!

I live on the west coast of Canada, with an orange marmalade cat and my darling husband.

I work in a small, public library. Despite what people think, working in a library is about helping people and not so much about reading.

In the Garden and the Kitchen

The property I share sports two cherry trees, three apple trees, a plum tree and a pear tree. Fruit bushes include raspberry, gooseberry and red currant. Strawberries and blueberries also have their place. We have three grape vines, two of which have just started producing fruit. A lot of fruit! I really like putting food by (salsa is my favourite preserve to make) and plan to expand my efforts from juicing, drying and canning to freezer preservation and pressure canning.

As far as meals, I like experimenting with flavours and do not stick to a recipe for long.

I have no discernible sweet tooth.

Creative Favourites

Creative things I have tried and continue to enjoy ~ painting (acrylic) ~ sewing ~ canning and preserving food ~ papercrafting ~ decoupaging ~ photography ~ drawing ~ collaging

Creative things I hope to try again or do for the first time ~ dancing ~ dying fabric ~ edible flower gardening ~ making neon signs/art ~ jewellery making ~ ink drawing ~ cement crafting ~ art journaling ~ learning the accordion ~ painting (watercolour) ~ pysanky

Creative things Bucket List ~ glass blowing ~ painting with resin

Creative things I've tried but likely will not do again ~ adult colouring books ~ bow making ~ stained glass

Themes for Swaps

It's hard to imagine not being pleased with swaps. I am pretty flexible as long as it meets the criteria laid out by the coordinator. That being said, if you have the option and you would like to make something yourself, go for it! I love seeing what other people do/create/make.

Here are some themes which may help if you are looking for extra inspiration!

~ sushi ~ black and white ~ stationary ~ fine tipped pens ~ journal ~ fondue ~ postage stamps ~ sewing notions ~ botanical ~ nuts ~ photography ~ Brothers Grimm fairy tales or other folk tales ~

Again if what you are sending meets the criteria of the swap, I will be happy.

Unless I randomly join a food swap, please do not send me any food items, even tea.

Some Favorite Media

I tend to the fantastical: "The Fall" directed by Tarsem Singh (2006) and "Pan's Labyrinth" directed by Guillermo del Toro (2006) are two of my favorites.

I read "What is Left the Daughter" by Howard Norman annually. "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordan" by Stephen King is becoming a re-read.

I tend to like the darker series. Walking Dead ~ Ozark ~ Killing Eve

Changes daily.

Guilty Things

Whether the guilt is justified or not.

~ lining my baking and roasting trays with parchment paper so I don't have to scrub ~ needing silence and solitude ~ watching too much YouTube ~ not doing yoga or really anything physical in the winter

Comment: Thank you for the lovely pockets. I quite like the doily you used. Never seen them before. And what a lovely touch to include some collage cards you made. And the small pocket and all the goodness you added in this swap. And then the beads, I assume also made by you. Will have to find a special place for those.

BooksPaperNature rated for A Package of ... Me! on Jan 29, 2021
Comment: Thank you for this wonderful package, Allison. I enjoyed looking at your profile and finding out how each item tells me a bit more about you. The large spoons for salsa (did I get that right?) was especially creative. It's quite nostalgic to see a book borrowing card too. I couldn't quite figure out the raffle tickets - I am guessing you enjoy raffles or amusement park games. Hope your 2021 is going well!
Response: I'm glad you enjoyed the package! I had fun putting it together. The raffle tickets reflect my love of paper and art. Ephemera comes in so handy when making all things paper. Enjoy!
derakisu rated for CA : ATC Neon on Jan 26, 2021
Comment: It is such an original idea to use the flags to create a dress ! She really pops up against that dark background and the sparkling touches work so well. I'm always impressed by what you create. It is a pleasure to swap with you. ^_^
Response: I'm glad you are enjoying her. I keep thinking I have figured out my style but I really haven't. I look forward to the challenges different props offer.

9O96O rated for CA : ATC Rainbow #3 : Yellow on Nov 29, 2020
Comment: The first thing I noticed was the Maud Lewis postage stamp. I didn't know that these are the new Christmas stamps for 2020. I like it. I also like how you used double-sided scrapbook paper for the note. Nice colours and such a nice note. You write well. Thanks for explaining the thought and process that went into your ATCs. The layering and textures are lovely. I especially noticed the tissue on cardstock on the butterflies. It gives it a similar look to actual butterfly wings. Beautiful. Thank you for making these yellow ATCs for me.
Response: I'm so glad you appreciate them. As I think I mentioned in my note, apparently I don't like yellow. It was a good process to go through though :)
