I live in Alabama. I started making ACT’s 9 years ago but stopped...this summer I am take a break from Graduate School. Cleaning my craft space I was inspired to try again. Coming back I have discovered a1 from 9 years ago has really hurt my ability to participate but I have pulled my rating back to 4.9395. Not high enough for most swaps yet but you can see my stuff on Instagram under donaherringsmith. I am a graduate of Auburn University. I begin college an art student, was a sports photographer for a decent size newspaper but ended up with an undergrad degree in Child Development Childhood and Art History to help support my husband during his USA Olympic track and field career - 2 Olympics after we graduated and had our daughter- I earned a Masters in Library Science and Technology from Uof Alabama. Used my undergrad and grad degrees as a Childrens Services Department Head at a larger public library. It is important to know I am proud of my degree from UofA...However I am a born and raised Tiger fan....My member name is AuTiger! I am currently working on a second Masters in Social Work at Auburn University. College not as much fun as it was in undergrad or even at 36 when I earned my first Masters...so much research with this degree. I am taking a break before I begin my research and internship.
I married a fellow AU graduate. He is a 3 time USA Olympic Athlete...Gold in '84, he has trained lots of Olympic and Pro athletes. He can still wear his college uniform-I cannot wear my college clothes.
We have one daughter and she is also an AU alum. She became our artsy one-an architect. She works for a large University and is currently remodeling her own 1950 mid century. We are purging all her Shabby Chic for a sleek minimalist look.
I own a 9 year old female boxer named Shug Jordan. I babysit my daughter’s rescue 120lb Lab, hound, something big and sweet mix, Charles Barkley.
Altered anything; books, journals, old sofa paintings.. But for now just doing ACT's and trying the Journaling thing...though I have embellished, expressing myself in Journals since my Fine Art Prof in Undergrad untroduced us to Art Journals. I have years of Work Planners full of headers, doodles and colored pins. I used to hand piece and hand quilted in my teens, my great grandmother taught me. I had my grandmother ‘s quilting racks until my sister stole them from me! Once upon a time I did a lot of cross-stitch, I sewed a tiny bit. I was introduced to calligraphic / copperplate years ago in college and still dabble at it...but I had to paid someone to do our daughter’s wedding invitations so yea...while I have the tools I lack the skills. I am a huge fan of John Lytle Wilson..love his altered art! Google him. My best friend-Robin-is a very accomplished artist, mostly pottery currently but I own a couple of her beautiful paintings. One of the children who grew up in my library is now an accomplished artist. Two of my old art night friend have had ATC’s published in Somerset magazine.
Steely Dan Tom Petty Eagles Cold Play Civil Wars Adele Imitation Dragons
Currently love listening to NPR pod-cast
This last year being In grad school all I have done is read-textbooks and research papers...but as a librarian I have meet some great authors Rick Bragg, Pat Conroy, Fanny Flagg and I have a copy of To Kill A Mockingbird that was personality signed for me by Ms Harper Lee when I was in college...she hated autographing her book-my charming brother arranged this treasure.
Now I am in school not much TV but I like PBS the Minitures, Handmaids Tale, Call the Mid-wives, Killing Eve-BBC, WestWorld, and Game of Thrones...oh the Goodplace is fun.
i Can never think of movies I love... Princess Bride Gladiator Elf Anything funny is nice
I have attended Auburn Football and other sporting events since I was a child. My husband tells folks my family made him the AU fan he is today and he was runner up for SEC athlete of the year 1979. We grew up motorhome, season ticket holding true blue Tigers. So I love burn orange and navy blue, Tigers, Eagles and Olympic stuff...but we have lots of that stuff. I dislike Dollar Tree craft stuff, most stickers. We drink Sweet tea down here in Alabama but I love ice coffee too! I do not need old book pages...20 years of collecting vintage pages means I am good. Ribbon- I also have too much. Honestly what I want is just to trade some ATC’s.
