It's nice to meet you! I'm Tess, I'm in my 40s, no children. I have one elderly grey tabby cat.
Pen-palling has been a hobby of mine for a few years. I have been on Postcrossing for a few years, as well as LEX, LWA, and Sendsomething.net. I PROMISE to always rate and I PROMISE to never flake! I have been pen palling for a long time. If you do not receive a rating or a swap you are expecting from me, please let me know immediately!
Please expect that swaps from me will contain more writing and not much in the way of drawings, stickers, colorings, and such. I hope my swaps are creative and enjoyable, but I am not well-practiced in paper crafts or visual arts.
Special request: Please do not send anything which has been perfumed. Like many folks, I am sensitive to smells and possibly allergic to some. Thank you.
Faves for Swaps:
Colors: Blue, Gray, Black, White.
Themes: Science, Geeky, Library/Books, Writing, Letters, Postcards, Geography, Historical, Nerdy, Vintage, Retro.
Collections: None, except postcards and letters of all kinds. I'm rather a minimalist.
Tea: Black, Green, White, Ginger, Licorice, but not fruity or citrus.
Treats: Not big on candy or chocolate.
Religion: I don't really care for religious-themed cards, etc. unless it is of Eastern Orthodox or Byzantine style. I am Eastern Orthodox Christian (not to be confused with Jewish). However, I am not a zealot or a fundamentalist.
Thanks for reading my profile! Snail mail is one of the most inclusive, civilized, and creative hobbies out there and I'm always glad to meet new enthusiasts.
The Smiths; Johnny Marr; Morrissey.
War on Drugs.
Memoirs and non-fiction, mostly. I love science, especially biology and anatomy. Some favorite authors are Mary Roach, Frans deWaal, Francis Collins, Jared Diamond, Natalie Angier, Malcolm Gladwell.
I have also read everything by CS Lewis, not just the Narnia stuff. Fiction: I've read just about everything from Stephen King. I also enjoy Kazuo Ishiguro, most famous for Remains of the Day. A newer author I enjoy is Naomi Alderman.
Documentaries from BBC One or PBS Nature and anything narrated by David Attenborough.
Battlestar Galactica (2004).
The Handmaid's Tale.
Parks and Rec.
Les Revenants (French TV show, not the movie with Leo DiCaprio).
The Daily Show.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
I will usually see any movie that is critically-acclaimed. I like films based on a true story.
I also enjoy spooky, creepy horror films, but not slashers or "torture porn".
The classic black and white films of the 40s and earlier are a favorite. I love Charlie Chaplin's "City Lights". Buster Keaton is also a fave!
I've seen almost every Katharine Hepburn film ever. My favorites are the nine films she made with Spencer Tracy.
NPR. StoryCorps. This American Life. Lore.
True Crime Podcasts such as: My Favorite Murder. Case File True Crime. LPOTL. The Vanished.
This Is Actually Happening. Memory Palace. The X-Files Files (about my fave show). The Moth Radio Hour. The TED Radio Hour.
Writing Snail Mail. Sorry, I don't do any crafting, except maybe a bit of cross-stitching once in awhile.
Travel has been a big part of my life! I grew up in Georgia. I now live on the Fresh Coast of Michigan. I have also lived in Kentucky, Texas, and Germany.
When I was ten, my folks and I drove from Georgia to Alaska and back. I have been up and down the entire East coast. I have been through most of the US. I have been to Germany, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, England, France, Italy, Czech, Austria, and Turkey.
