I live in Central Maine and most days like it very much. I am struggling to find a job; I am a certified English teacher in a state (a country?) that isn't hiring teachers right now! I put in three years subbing at one school district before getting a permanent position, only to be cut with the budget the next year. I've started over in a new school district as a substitute, and am hoping the climate is going to change soon so I can actually settle into a teaching career! I really enjoy teaching middle school and the difference a teacher (and a student!) can make in the lives of others.
I watch way too much TV; the DVR was invented for me! I watch a wide range of programming, from semi trashy reality shows to the history channel. My favorite thing is to watch zombie movies while I sew!
I sew sew sew sew sew. Until recently I did primarily garment sewing and some "craft" sewing. I discovered modern quilting last year and I have to say, I've been bitten by the quilting bug. All of my crafting focuses primarily on fabric.
Bias tape of any width and color/print, (I love homemade especially), in lengths 1/2 yd or more. Zippers (not metal) of any length and color, invisible or regular. Interfacing of any weight. Standard sewing machine needles and plain old thread (esp. white, grey, beige).
I would love a spare jelly roll/honey bun strip, charm or layer cake square, even a random scrap, of Figgy Pudding or Aviary, both from Moda.
I am especially fond of modern fabric designs. I will use even little bits of fun fabrics; I enjoy trading scraps! I am especially interested in: anything Heather Ross anything with owls or other birds Jay McCaroll's line with the funny little animals! Amy Butler and am recently craving Anna Maria Horner's Chocolate Lollipop line
Back issues of Burda World of Fashion or Ottobre magazine (I really want to try out some of their patterns to see what all the fuss is about!)
I am starting to use vintage sheets in my quilting/crafting; the wilder the pattern, the better!
Country/Americana colors or patterns. Victorian lacy looking things. Laura Ashley florals. Stuffies, fake food/similar. Dolls and doll accessories (A mini quilt would be a wall hanging to me.) Cigarette smoke smell will irritate my allergies.
