Hello. My name is Caroline. I grew up in Cleveland and live in Dayton, Ohio. I'm 56 years old. I've been married to my husband Jim for 30 years. No children.
I have an American Shelterhound (spaniel/beagle/sheltie??) named Bailey. He had been abused. I got him when he was 3. At first he was so scared I couldn't even walk him to the corner. Now he is a happy dog who loves to sit under my desk while I'm on the computer. He can't go out in crowds, though. He's about 45 lbs. with long silky red fur.
My husband was dying for an Irish wolfhound and I thought he was crazy. I knew he was serious when he started contacting breeders. We got Seamus about two years ago and he is a big source of amusement. He's a red brindle (lots of gray in his coat) and I love to take him places and show him off. I dressed up like a cowboy last October and made a saddle for him. He won Best in Show out of 90 dogs! His prize was a year's supply of dog food. The 80 lbs. I got didn't go far with a dog who weighs 145 lbs. :)
Recently, the wolfie breeder called us. The man who'd bought Seamus' sister couldn't keep her anymore. She wanted to know if we'd take her. The answer was heck, yes! Her name is Maeve (another Irish name.) She is a little darker (gray brindle) and weighs a mere 110 lbs. But what a sweetheart! She is more affectionate than her brother. They just love to play together. So now we have three dogs. It's something to try to take all three of them places! But Bailey is too shy to take everywhere. We enjoy taking them to dog events such as Bark in the Park, Walk for Strays, Dogs Night Out at the custard store, the dog park, the large outdoor mall, and other places.
I've been a school librarian for many years. I work with 7th and 8th graders, and believe it or not, I actually like it! I enjoy decorating the library for the different holidays and seasons. Kids really like the little toys and stuff I put out as decorations. I plan to retire in two years.
I enjoy traveling. In the past year, I went to Paris, France, spent a week in Maine at the ocean, a week in Siesta Key Florida at the ocean (I just discovered that I really like the ocean!), and a week in the American Southwest. I love that area around Arizon, Utah, New Mexico, and Colorado. My husband and I have been to Ireland five times; it's our favorite destination. We love the beautiful Irish countryside.
FAVORITE MUSIC Since I'm a librarian, well, I kinda like quiet a lot! But my favorite music is baroque, Celtic, and 80s. Also techno. Kind of a weird combo.
FAVORITE BOOKS I used to read tons of fantasy, and I still enjoy that. Nowadays I like more non-fiction about current events and stuff. I also really like true crime books. Oh, and classics like Jane Austen.
FAVORITE MOVIES I like action movies, big epics like Braveheart and Gone with the Wind, period pieces (I'm a sucker for anything with historic costumes like Pride and Prejudice,) science fiction and fantasy, old black and white classics, and comedies.
FAVORITE TELEVISION Lost -- Heroes -- 24 -- True crime shows like Dateline -- Old movies -- Simpsons
FAVORITE CRAFTS I have always enjoyed making things. When I was a kid, I did tons of crafts. In my 20s and 30s and 40s I did sewing, crochet, embroidery, cross stitch, stained glass, rubber stamping, candlemaking; jeepers, just tons of different crafts. But I started in on computers when they were still pretty new, and that has been my interest since then. I'd rather make a scrapbook or a card or a gift box on a computer than by cutting and pasting little pieces of paper. I find I can be very creative that way. I also enjoy using my digital camera. But I still do a few crafts now and then (even though I wear trifocals! I think my counted cross stitch days are over!!) For example, I sewed a saddle for my dog who's as big as a horse to wear as a costume.
