Response: You know, I'd been thinking about that, and I'm pretty sure they get up to a little more than just having long talks about finches...
Response: Awesome! I love giving people the excuse to make new and exciting stuff.
Response: Yep, possibly the best ever drawing by me! Too bad it'll be really hard to top!
Response: You can buy transfer foil at some craft supply stores (I live in NYC and can get it at Pearl Paint), and the stuff is designed to be able to be heat transferred to fabric using special glue, but you can also easily iron it onto the toner of most photocopies. Super easy and gorgeous!
Response: Yeah, I was really glad to have this stroke of inspiration on a swap that was going to you!
Response: Whoah! There's a video game with pregnant fish? That sounds pretty cool! There's a little interactive game at the New York Aquarium where you played a school of sea jellies, and had to go find food and avoid predators and boat propellers and increase your population, but all the consoles are usually broken.
Response: Yay! Maybe I'll send you another image in the series some time, as there are many of them, all random and fun.
Response: I'm just glad I got to receive your beautiful card! It's pretty much always a good idea to do a swap with someone who's really into the idea, and this was further proof of that!
Response: Yay! I had tons of fun doing that card, and I must say, I don't usually draw very well at all, but that bat came out pretty darn adorable! I love that bats apparently don't have cell phones. The photoshop coloring is something I learned how to do at my old job, where I colored drawings of Barbie and her friends and clothes and props for little animated videos that were packaged with the My Scene Mattel toys. Which was actually way cooler than it sounds!
Response: Aww, thanks so much! Any time you have a postcard swap idea you'd like to try out, I'm usually game!
Response: Hooray for nude people! Maybe some day if I have the chutzpah I'll host a nude handmade art doll swap. We'll see... I'm used to postcard swaps, which are a little less labor intensive, but nude art dolls might just be awesome enough to trump my laziness!
Response: Actually, this particular bear has dreams of becoming an astronaut, so a Martian's not so very far off!
Response: Will do! I tend to print out versions of every artwork I make as postcards, so I might just drop a card in the mail to you in the next few days at random, if I have time!
Response: Hooray! My replacement card made it to you! I was about to be really embarrassed that as the host of the swap my card was missing in limbo. Thanks for joining this one.
Response: I don't know... I think making sausage might just beat out even the most alluring pinup pose... I'm trying and failing to picture the pinup shot that would combine sausage making with the traditional pinup aesthetic.
Response: Thanks so much! I decided back in college, when I had absolutely no computer skills at all, that I WOULD learn Photoshop, and then taught it to myself. I wish I could follow through as well with all my goals!
Response: I have a whole process that I use, and the only thing that you might not have access to is the laminator. Well, that and possibly the inkjet printer... and possibly the joss paper... Clearly I have no way of knowing what sort of tools you've got! But I swear, the technique is much easier than it looks!
Response: You know, it's really funny that you ask that question, because the xerox-transfer part of the card was done when I was in high school, and I really am wracking my brain to see if I can remember any common theme... I think the theme may have been "the pile of images I grabbed before heading out the door to the copy shop". The watercolor part of the image was literally done the same day that I dropped it into them mailbox!
Response: Xerox transfer is amazing, and I'm sure if you'd like to try it out, there are a million tutorials and suggestions on the web. My three suggestions: Very fresh copies, Chartpak blender pen, and VENTILATION!
Response: Wow, what a great coincidence! I always feel like we ketchup lovers have to stand up for ourselves, as people are always trash talking about ketchup. I was at the Mount Horeb Mustard Museum a while back and there was a t-shirt that had some sort of slogan about how only silly wimpy people use ketchup because mustard is the only real condiment (or something to that effect), and I wanted to clue them in about how mustard and ketchup are actually really good friends! Anyway, glad you liked the card!
Response: If you come up with any themes you'd like to try out for a postcard swap, just let me know! I love photography, but am also willing to try out just about any medium.
Response: I had so much fun with this swap! I went through a couple of disturbingly uninspired days, but of course my instincts kicked in in the end and I knew what my card had to be! And I just received a fishy card of my own today from my partner, and she is super super adorable! Thanks for hosting this one!
Response: I just figured you were holding out before rating do decide whether the heart was warranted, or the songs totally annoyed you! I'm glad you decided on the former!
Response: I have been really enjoying the fact that the same people seem to keep signing up for all the art-type postcard swaps. Soon I'll feel like I really know a lot about my repeat swap partners, and the fact that what we learn from postcard swaps presents an amusingly incomplete picture of the person is really fascinating!
Response: You're not kidding! It seems like some days I can do nice things with a pen, but most of the time the universe says, "no, thy work shall be exceedingly ugly-looking!" I'm glad you liked my card!
Response: If you want to do more swaps in the future, I can surprise you with a medium that is totally new and unrelated to the card you just received! I'm excited for your card...
Response: Hee hee! I'd love to know that my work is framed in the house of someone who isn't my parents!
Response: Wow! Those got to you fast! I was so happy to find the one that's the etching, because it actually had a good story to go with it, beyond, "I tried to make something, and it didn't quite go how I planned," which is the story with most of my work!
Response: A transparency on top of sparkly paper (I do a ton of these - it's almost gotten to the point where I should name some sort of medium after myself!)
Response: Thank you so much! Any time you'd like to do a new postcard swap of pretty much any kind, just let me know!
Response: My ATC was made using drawings by me (the two people) and clip art (the two sharks) and photoshop (the talk-bubbles). Then I printed it onto iron-on transfer paper, and voila! I'm glad you liked it!
