Hi, my name's Megan and I'm from a small town in New Mexico, USA.
A few things about me; I'm a proud geek and a bit of a pop culture nerd. I'm something of a crazy cat lady-in-training as well, sharing my space with four cats. I also have four sweet and silly dogs. Definitely a full house!
I have many hobbies and interests but due to social anxiety, most of them are homebound.
I've been penpalling for many years now (both through the post and e-mail). I'm a member of Postcrossing and Postcard United too, which is a lot of fun.
Lately, I've been trying to get more creative with my letters, envelopes, and postcards. I'm always looking for embellishments to brighten things up; cute paper and envelopes, colorful pens, pencils, and markers, stickers of all kinds, rubber stamps, inks and embossing powders, deco and washi tapes, glitter... It's still a work in progress.
Inspired by some of the ~awesome~ artists on this site, I'm trying my hand at making Lucky Paper Stars. I'm now on the lookout for origami papers and other brightly colored/interesting paper.
I love reading and will read just about anything that catches my eye. I'm a total sucker for an odd or interesting title and I'm addicted to Goodreads in a bad way.
Some favorite genres are history (especially women's), Southern Gothic, feminism/women's studies, pop science, detective novels, fairy tale retellings and continuations, Victorian children's novels, Gothic ghost stories, vintage advice books, historical fiction, turn-of-the-century college girl stories, and books of compiled letters.
Some of my favorite authors are Flannery O'Conner, Tillie Olsen, Mary Roach, Lynn Peril, Jane Austen, Aldous Huxley, Agatha Christie, Shirley Jackson, Clive Barker, Sarah Waters, Emma Donoghue, Franz Kafka, and Judith Flanders.
I also read a ridiculous amount of manga and Korean webtoons. Just like an unhealthy amount.
I like a bit of everything; depending on my mood, it could be anything from opera to K-pop. I like alternative, indie, classical, swing, oldies, R&B, industrial metal, bubblegum, punk, pop, instrumental, top-40, old country, folk, rock, electronic, show tunes, ska, blues, and Disney soundtracks.
Some favorite artists/bands of mine are Dusty Springfield, The Black Keys, Petula Clark, Girls' Generation, Die Antwoord, Vance Joy, Elvis Presley, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, Tegan & Sara, Alt-j, AWOLNation, Fitz & the Tantrums, Gorillaz, Nathaniel Rateliff, Hozier, The Lumineers, and Cage the Elephant.
Animated movies are the best; Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks, Studio Ghibli, Laika...
I like most everything from Tim Burton or starring Leslie Nielsen. Science fiction, psychological horror, and cult films are good too. I'm a huge MST3K fan so cheesy old movies and mental hygiene films are always fun.
A few of my favorite movies are ParaNorman, The Fifth Element, Matilda, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Hairspray, The Blues Brothers, Clue, The Birdcage, Big Fish, Coraline, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Death Becomes Her, Meet the Robinsons, Drop Dead Fred, Beetlejuice, Inside Out, and O Brother, Where Art Thou?
I enjoy older American sitcoms (The Golden Girls, Mary Tyler Moore, The Bob Newhart Show...) and older British comedies (Fawlty Towers, Keeping Up Appearances, Monty Python, Are You Being Served?...).
Most often, I watch cartoons; Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Bob's Burgers, Steven Universe, The Amazing World of Gumball, We Bare Bears, My Little Pony, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Home Movies, Shin Chan, Summer Camp Island, Big City Greens...stuff like that.
I watch Doctor Who series one reruns from time to time too. The Ninth Doctor is by far my favorite - Christopher Eccleston rocks my socks.
I'm just now starting to get into anime again, so any recommendations are appreciated.
When it comes to postcards, I have no dislikes (or at least none I've come across yet). I like tourist cards (single or multi-view) and non-tourist cards equally. Handmade or store bought-cards of any size and theme are fine with me. Free and ad cards are good too and I love Zazzle postcards. Basically, if it's a card you would enjoy receiving, I know I will enjoy it as well.
For a more specific list of postcard subjects I enjoy (and just things I like in general), please see the next section. It is just to give some ideas, I really am not hard to please.
If given the choice, I prefer my postcards sent naked (stamped and written on, no envelope).
