SNAIL MAIL: Please be patient. It typically takes 2-4 weeks for mail to travel from Finland to other continents (f.ex. the US or Australia). And vice versa. Occasionally it has taken nearly two months before a letter of mine has received the recipient.

It's very rare that mail gets lost in the post, but if this happens, let me know and I will re-send!

I always rate as soon as I get a swap :)

ELECTRONIC SWAPS: I find e-mails much easier to handle than the private messages in Swap-bot. So feel free to use e-mail if you're to make an electronic swap with me. Just remember to include the name of the swap and your Swap-bot username :)

About Me

I'm Emilia, a woman in my thirties, christian, happily married, mother of two. I live in Finland, in Northern Europe.

I enjoy good food, playing the piano, and reading novels.

I'm interested in pets and observing animal behaviour. Currently I only have one pet of my own, a cat. I'm hoping to continue my dear hobby, horse back riding, in the future.

Nature conservation, recycling and sustainable choices in everyday life are things that matter to me. That includes crafting. I'm not a puritan, but I try to use recycled materials when I can, and only buy crafting materials that I know I'm actually going to use.

PS. My 6-year-old is very much hoping to swap some mail too. If you have a kid around the same age, who would like to exchange drawings/ATCs/short notes/post cards, please contact me :)

What to write..?

If you're to send me mail/letter/postcard but don't know what to write, here are some suggestions:

-Local culture and your everyday life

-Nature and animal life in your country/ home area

-Books you have read lately/ books you could recommend

-Your favourite recipie (preferably with no meat)

-Christian encouragement/ your favourite Bible verses

-Your worldview

-Your pets

Art & Swapping

ATCs (Artist Trading Cards) I love ATCs, though lately I haven't made many. I make hand painted ATCs with watercolors, but sometimes also use other media.

ATC themes I collect:

-Hand drawn/painted cards

-Wild animals (even reptiles, snakes and other animals that some people consider not-so-cute..)

-Cards made with interesting techniques (gelli printing, alcohol inks, acrylic pouring, clever use of recycled materials...)

-Interesting collages and other cards with some unique/quirky twist

I put a lot of time and effort in most of my ATCs, so if you're to trade ATCs with me, I hope you make your best effort too :)

You can see the cards I've made in the past in my blog: https://atcemilia.wordpress.com/

-Swap-bot has inspired me to try other types of mail art too, f.ex. decorated envelopes, and self made bookmarks and postcards.

-I also enjoy swaps that are about writing and sharing thoughts, such as letter/postcard writing swaps, swaps about cultural exchange, and reading/ book recommendation themed swaps.

-Black tea (preferably scented)

-Decaf teas

-Chamomile blends

-Scented green tea

-favourite scents: jasmine, mango, peach, vanilla, caramel, pastry tastes, mint, cola (Yes, cola! A finnish tea house used to produce cola flavoured tea that was one of my favourites, but they gave it up. I wonder if any other company makes one?)

-STASH I've got to taste some nice blends from this mark through previous tea swaps. Unfortunately Stash Teas are not available in Finland. I would especially like to try:

*White Peach Oolong

*Breakfast in Paris

*Sweet Honeydew Green Tea

*Coconut Mango Oolong

*Peach Black Tea

*Chocolate Mint Oolong

*Chamomile Nights

My dislikes:

-Herbal/berry infusions

-Plain green tea

-Licorice root

Favorite Books

I mostly read novels. I love historical novels, but I also read detective stories, fantasy and scifi, and a variety of books that are not that easy to put in some locker. I mostly read in finnish (both domestic and translated literature), but sometimes also in english or swedish.

I'm taking part in a local library's 50-books-a-year-challenge (somewhat similar to Pop Sugar reading challenge), which has inpsired me to read more books "out of my comfort zone".

Please recommend me your favourite books! :)

Genres I don't like are horror, and stories with a lot of detailed description of violence/sex.

Anything goes really, as long as it's appropriate. I'm most interested in what you write on the back :) (See "What to write..?" above, if you need ideas.)

My special likes:

-Art cards (classical art, contemporary art, also art designed for postcard purpose)

-Black&white photos

-Animals, fish or bugs pictured in artistic or realistic style (as opposite to funny cartoon style)

My favourite animals: goats, badgers, crows, cats, betta fish, gourami fish

-Cards with bookish theme (picturing a character reading, someone in a library/ bookstore..)

-Cards with a teacup, or a character enjoying a cup of tea

-Card drawn/painted/collaged etc. BY YOU :)

Extras/ Flat gifts

You don't need to send me a bunch of extras in hopes of a heart. If I like what you sent for the trade/ I see you've put thought and effort in it, I will give you a heart.

Should you still want to send something, or if you're to send me "a small flat gift" like some swaps require, here are some things I like:

-Unique pieces of paper/cardstock I can use for further work (f.ex. leftover pieces from your art/craft projects)

-Book pages/ magazine pages with english text. (I would like to do some blackout poems, but am short of material.)

-Sheet music

-Pages with text on tiny font

-Reward stickers and other childish stickers. I have kids, and I work with kids, so I have use for them :)

-Washi samples

-Teabags (see "Tea" above)

-Folded notecards with no greeting (these seem to be hard to find in Finland)

Comment: Thank you for the wonderful letter! You did really good with the fortune cookie phrases since you've only had one! And my sister and I loved your fact about the bird. Also, your cat sounds like mine with the biting into bags and bread. Thankfully we don't have to lock the cabinets, but we can't leave any edible things out otherwise they tear it open! And thank you for the cute stickers!
Response: I'm glad you liked my letter :)
Comment: Thank you for your answers & note! My kids will especially enjoy your fun fact! LOL!!! :)
Response: Haha, it's good to have a laugh together :)
Comment: Thank you for your letter and answers. I loved reading both and think we'd get along great so will write back soon. Thank you for the Finnish phrases too. Don't worry, I don't ask 'how are you' to just get a 'I'm fine' answer :-). Happy Swapping.
Response: Great, I'm looking forward to your letter :)

Hunbun rated for Monochromatic Orange PC on Nov 12, 2019
Comment: Great postcard, thank you. Totally in the Nick Bantock style! To answer your question, denim jumpers (not a sweater, it's a long sleeveless denim dress, worn over a t-shirt) are often worn by fundamentalist women who dress following a self-imposed "modesty" dictum. Those ppl also are often heavily into homeschooling--I do not fit that image AT ALL!
Response: I'm glad you liked it, and thanks for enlightening me :)
Comment: Thank you for your beautiful letter! Your brush handwriting so neat! I still want to learn. Thank you for all the extra butterfly cutouts and stickers. <3 To make homemade pumpkin spice just mix together 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger and 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves. You can store it this way in a small spice jar. It tastes great added to coffee and baked goods. Enjoy!
Response: Thanks for the instructions :)

I haven't received any post in the last few weeks due to a strike in finnish postal service. The strike finally ended last Tuesday, so hopefully all delayed post will be delivered soon :)

2019 Newbie Friendly - Profile Bible Verse #1

from reauk

"Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed." ~ Isaiah 53:4-5

But if we are living in the light of God's presence, just as Christ does, then we have wonderful fellowship and joy with each other. 1 John 1:7

The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. Psalm 145:8

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Psalm 8:1

Have a blessed day! Hugs, Diane (Fabriqueen)

Hello Emilia, Greetings from the USA!

This is for the "2019 Newbie Friendly - Profile Bible Verse #1" -swap.

Giving the time of the year I thought I would add a few verses about love.

John 3:16 – “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

1 Corinthians 13:13 Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

This is another one that I like:

jaimierandolph on Feb 11, 2019:

2019 Newbie Friendly - Profile Bible Verse #1 user id: jaimierandolph 1 Corinthians 13 New International Version (NIV) 13 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
