About Me

Due to my recent move I will just be focusing on the swaps I have on my dash!

Once i'm done clearing out my current swaps I will be taking a short break from swapping to work on some personal art projects, weekend getaways with the girlfriend, and doing some experimental baking. I'll hopefully return in the winter for more swapping and start to host some cool swaps!

If you want to stay in touch/see what i'm working one you can find me on instagram @megancreations

Hello hello Everyone!

My name is Megan and I live in the lovely & historic Cambridge, MA. I moved here for work at the start of 2018 and have loved my time on the East Coast so far! I am a full-time Research Fellow at Harvard University and work with functional apparel design and soft robotics.
I grew up, went to school, and had lived my entire life in Minnesota before moving and still hold rural Minnesota in my heart.

I identify as non-binary, and I use they/their/theirs pronouns! I have a marvelous girlfriend with an adorable long-haired cat.

As my favorite saying goes: I'm not "gay" as in happy, i'm queer as in "fuck you!".

I see a lot of people asking not to send "Politicized Rainbows". I say boo! to that, send me those politicized rainbows for my queer little body to revel in! I'm especially happy to receive non-binary and genderqueer related items as well.

I tend to keep pretty busy between work, sewing & art projects, exploring my surroundings, and baking. I always look forward to mail in my mailbox, it gives me a little extra "pep" after a long day!

Likes, Dislikes, and Wish List

I love sending out and receiving things here on Swap-Bot, but I believe it shouldn't be super stressful to those swapping with me. Below is a list of items I like/dislike so you can get a good feel of me & my interests.

Please don't send extras unless the swap requires it or is related to my profile likes. Sorry to sound like "no fun" but i'm trying to destash my own materials at the moment before collecting more neat things. Thank you for the thought though!!

I love getting fun postcards, and while I don't mind touristy ones I really love receiving the following:

  • Fine Art & Museum prints (Esp. Gustav Klimt, Hieronymus Bosch, Francisco Goya, Van Gogh, and Charlie Harper)

  • Art Deco, Retro Futurism, Art Nouveau

  • Fashion Prints, especially: Alexander McQueen, Paul Poiret, Charles James, Erte (Romain de Tirtoff), Issey Miyake

  • The art of M. C. Escher, Alphonse Mucha, & Renaissance art/sculpture

  • Historical Places & Events

I prefer postcards to be sent naked unless specified in the swap guidelines!

For tea I prefer:

  • Fruity teas (raspberry, pomegranate, and black currant are my favorites)

  • Herbal teas (Especially mint(s), rose hips, hibiscus, lemongrass, and passion flower. Chamomile in blends only please!)

  • Flavored black & green teas, preferably not "plain"

  • Floral teas

  • "Woodsy"/"Smokey" teas (especially spruce/evergreen teas)

  • Surprise me, I love trying new things! Just no decaffinated teas please!

Hot Chocolate:

Please no mint-chocolate or white chocolate flavors, thank you!

My favorite colors include: Blues - Greens - Reds - Purples I typically enjoy bright "happy" looking colors, but I have a major soft spot for "neutrals".

As for "themes" I love practically anything regarding birds, deer, space, plants, and nature. I also really enjoy vintage, art deco, art nouveau, retro, industrial, minimalist, and "spooky", Gothic, and macabre themes.

For quilting swaps: 100% cotton textiles please

Prints and colors such as:

  • birds, deer, nature - not super "childish" prints though
  • Mushrooms, succulents, plants
  • contemporary/tasteful florals (think Marimekko)
  • triangles & geometric designs
  • hexagons/honeycomb
  • solids in bright, neutral, jewel tone colors

Other than that the same prints from above apply to silks, "fashion fabrics", wool (especially wool felt), and assorted mixed fiber textiles.

  • cryptoquip puzzles! from newspapers or online, I love a good cryptoquip!
  • Crossword puzzles! from newspapers or online, crosswords are my favorite puzzle
  • unique sewing/crafting supplies
  • embroidery/needle art supplies
  • interesting patches: vintage, scouting, space, etc.
  • deer related materials (pictures, drawings, physical items, antlers/pieces, etc)
  • bird related materials (pictures, drawings, physical items, please NO bird "parts" unless they are ethically & legally obtained (skulls/bones, feathers, claws/talons, etc.))
  • vintage fashion/illustrations
  • recipes & recipe cards
  • Vintage propaganda posters, postcards, prints
  • foreign coins and currency
  • Saint/Patron medals, amulets, coins
  • tarot cards, astrology, pagan, and witchcraft related items **Please make sure none of these items perpetuate cultural appropriation or are related to a closed culture/religion.

  • anything related to my favorites listed above!

Do you play Pokemon Go and are looking for another friend? PM me for my trainer code!

Although I genuinely love whatever I get sent in the mail, I do have a few things i'm not a fan of personally. So, to avoid hurt feelings on either end please avoid sending the following:

  • Mint-Chocolate flavored foods
  • White Chocolate flavored foods
  • Foods containing tomatoes
  • Plain green or black tea
  • Not a huge fan of Hello Kitty and most "Kawaii" stuff
  • Please no die cut paper pieces unless they are super relevant to my likes (I just don't have a use for them)
  • No paper scraps smaller than 2.5x3.5" (ATC size)
  • No "holiday" mascot related items (ex. santa, elves, snowmen, easter bunny, etc.) I don't have use for these items and I have a bit of an aversion to snowmen & Santa (I can't explain it, I just don't like them!)

I do however appreciate things with a more general seasonal theme such as mistletoe & holly, realistic rabbits, deer, cardinals, flowers & leaves, etc.

Unless its the type of swap i'm signed up for - please no friendship sheets, books, penpal stuff etc. Its hard enough for me to keep up with life in general so I only take on more friends/penpals when I have the time to do so!

Other dislikes?

Patriotic stuff, fascists & nationalists, pro-military/pro-cop/state-sanctioned violence stuff, religious zealotry, cultural appropriation, homophobia, transphobia, motorists who ignore pedestrians & cyclists, people who refuse to acknowledge their privilege, bigotry of all kinds, you know - the usual stuff.

Here I will keep ratings & ratings explanations that will be updated on a case-by-case basis.

2018: I am currently up to date in my archive here on SB. Please contact me if you haven't received a rating from me on a swap.

I know this sounds like a "duh" thing to do, but I am taking it upon myself to rate as soon as I get a swap in the mail. I have been a bit slow in the past which makes life disorganized, so this is my pledge to my fellow swappers to hold myself more accountable!

Finally, due to my schedule sometimes I don't get swaps dropped off in the mail until after the mail had been picked for the day (after 5pm in the USA). If this is a serious concern for you, let me know!

Please contact me about any ratings you have a question about via the swap-bot messenger system.

Comment: Thank you for sharing so openly. I love that you have your blanket from childhood. I don’t really have anything special from childhood.
Response: I did a lot of self reflection in this swap, its been so interesting reading others answers as well. I love that blanket dearly even though its starting to tatter and fray at the edges. I hope to "reverse-engineer" it so I can weave a duplicate of it someday!
Comment: Thank you so much for your very open answers! I have something personal to say, but in email. Your work sounds super interesting. Anyone who has "devices and prototypes" laying around sounds like much fun! Your reference book sounds great - I had a psychiatric diagnosis book I rescued from a foundation I worked at when they purged, and it had a hilarious bunch of things as "disorders" that are now considered completely normal and acceptable. And the hysteria, that was in there. Its description sounded like "a woman who is severely sick of the fu**ing men in her life trying to rule her," but like it was a bad thing. Anyway, I enjoyed reading your stuff, and thanks for sharing!
Response: I look forward to your message! It is such a funky book to look through and it gives a real look at the medicine (if you could call it that) at the time. I'm glad you enjoyed the answers, this was a really fun swap to participate in!
Comment: Thanks so much for your answers. :) I lived in ND for about 5 years, on the MN boarder, and had a good laugh at your use of 'Ufda!" :) Haven't heard that in years. :) Hope your move goes well. :)
Response: Ha! I'm glad you got a good laugh, now that I live in Mass. I get quite the confused look when I let out an exasperated "uffda"! The move has gone great so far, thanks for the well wishes!
Comment: Love all the black & white elements with the birds
Comment: Love the coin you sent to me.Very nice work. Thanks so much.

Hi! Thanks for the profile comment! I LOVE the McElroys. It’d be cool to do a McElroy-related swap—although I can’t draw, so I’m trying to think of a swap I could do. 🙂

Have a great day!

Hi, found your profile from the Share Your Playlist swap and just wanted to share that you profile gave me the giggles. I should have already heard of this, but maybe I’m just a bad bi. :)

“As my favorite saying goes: I'm not "gay" as in happy, i'm queer as in "fuck you!".”

This is amazeballs, thank you for posting it. I’m also a research analyst so I’m happy to see another academic! Hope to see you in a future swap. Happy 4th. :)
