About Me

UPDATE 9/15/17 -- I'm all caught up with rating post-breakup move! If you sent something in late July/early August & I haven't rated yet, message me as it wasn't in my pile! This weekend, I'm going on a mini road trip with my doggie so nothing will be sent/rated during this time. I'll be back on Sunday night and will return to swapping on Monday. :) Wish me luck!

Hello! My name is Analise, and I live in Seattle, Washington, USA, (with my German Shepherd/Rottweiler rescue, Rutherford) but I grew up in a desert in California. My favorite color is grey, and my favorite animals are sharks! I'm one half Mexican, one half Italian & Lithuanian, so feel free to write in any of the respective languages to help me learn. I've travelled to Canada, Mexico, England, Scotland, Ireland (and Northern Ireland for all you separatists), and France. I currently have four tattoos, and can't wait to collect more!

Favorite Books

  • Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

  • The End of the Affair by Graham Greene

I don't really have the attentions span for reading anymore (argh) but when I can finally simmer down, I love postmodern literature (hence Greene!), and some modernist works (like Tennessee Williams).

Currently by my bedside are

  • Narconomics by Tom Wainwright (an analysis on the economics of drug cartels--so fascinating!)

  • Death in the City of Light by David King (nonfiction work about a serial killer in Nazi-occupied Paris)

Favorite TV/Movies

I don't watch TV unless I'm watching a documentary series on Viceland, or the nightly news. I'm so largely out of tune with TV and movies--I haven't seen anything.

Favorite Music

It's an absolute cliché but I do really love most types of music--alternative, dance, rap, reggaeton amongst my favorites. My shower playlist currently includes "Si Tu Novio Te Deja Sola" by J Balvin/Bad Bunny, "Strict Machine" by Goldfrapp, and "Whole Lotta Lovin'" by DJ Mustard.

I try to go to shows often, and I go to Coachella every year (I grew up a few blocks away!). Other festivals I've been to include EDC Las Vegas, Bumbershoot, Capitol Hill Block Party, and 111 Music Festival. I love music festivals!

Favorite Crafts/Art

I would be so happy to receive postcards, stationery, unused stamps, and washi! My only request with postcards (excluding those listed in Dislikes) is that if you are sending blanks, please don't send any touristy/destination ones. I think it's weird to get a card of a place I've never been to if there isn't a note that shows the sender has been there or otherwise has a connection to it, if that makes sense? If it's written, though, then I am so happy with tourist cards.

I myself am not much for stickers or coloring pages, but if I have young nieces who love things like that! They live pretty far so I like to send them mail regularly to surprise them. They are aged 10 and 8, and they love everything from Barbie to the Avengers!

Other than all that, my favorite types of art are drawing, watercolor painting, and photography. I recently purchased a Fujifilm Instax Mini 8, so if you would like a photo of Seattle, just let me know :)

My favorite artists are:

  • Painting: Wayne Thiebaud, Ben Steele

  • Illustration: Henn Kim, Apollonia Sinclair

  • Photography: Mary Ellen Mark

I'll get on the ABC thing too! Here's "just a few of my favorite things" not mentioned already:

A - Aviation (esp. vintage) / Amusement parks

B - Burlesque / Birthdays / the Beatles / Big Hair

C - Cars (& car rides) / Cideries / Catholicism (not Catholic anymore but it makes me nostalgic for home)

D - Doughnuts / Del Taco (there's only 1 in WA!) / Daggers

E - Expletives / Eyeshadow

F - Fashion Weeks / Firework finales / Fairs / Foods

G - Guns (not in the NRA type of way... & oddly enough I'm a pacifist) / Globetrotting

H - Halloween / Hotels / Herbal teas / Hiking (a new love of mine!!) / Heart-shaped

I - Iconography

J - Juice / Jaywalking (hard letter)

K - Kit Kats / Kids (HA! Just kidding. Never having them)

L - Lingerie / Linguistics / LGBT+ / LA Dodgers

M - "Mean Girls" Quotes / Money

N - Neon Signs

O - Ombre / Opals / Outer Space / Okapis / Otto von Bismarck

P - Peruvian Lilies / "Painterly" & "Photorealistic" art / Pole tricks / Pasta / Pulp Fiction

Q - Quartz / Quantum Physics (it's fun to read & talk about with my very basic, rookie level)

R - Records / Running / Reincarnation

S - Soccer / Sailor Jerry / Sewing / Skulls

T - Typography (fave font is Helvetica) / Triangles / Textures

U - Unpredictability / Urbanity / Unsaturated Fats (yes? no? This letter was hard)

V - Volleyball / Vegetarian

W - World War II / West Coast

X - /

Y - Yoga / Yuletide

Z - Zombies (cute ones like pin-ups otherwise I get bad dreams, lol)

Please don't send items with religious or cutesy/kawaii imagery. I'm perfectly fine receiving vulgar, provocative, or otherwise obscene cards (in fact I encourage those)!

My least favorite colors are yellows and neon lime green. I'm embarrassed to admit they make me physically nauseous, lol! Not embarrassed to admit they're ugly anyway.

And please, please, one of my only true pet peeves is when someone misspells my name. I get that it is very unusual, but as I get older, it starts to bother me more to see people write "Analisa" or "Annelise" when my name is literally typed out in front of them. Other than these few things, I am very easygoing and I am so happy to receive anything! :)

I've been amassing things of which I have no use but I can't bear to throw away. Please PM if you want them!

I have:

  • Yarn skeins & scraps

  • Fabric scraps (including lace and other trim)

  • Seeds (cauliflower, peppers)

I'll update this list as time goes!

I received your letter today, and I'm so happy you enjoyed the music! I have a monstrous amount of playlists all set up on Youtube and 8tracks as well as on my computer. If ever you want a random shuffle of music just let me know. Beware, I have a very large variety of music in my collection.
