Comment: Thank you so much for all of the sweet junk journal supplies! I especially love the hedgehog postcard and the Alice In Wonderland one and the cute envelopes, stickers, and such! I can’t wait to use the stuff in some projects!
Response: So glad you enjoyed it all :D Thank you for the heart :)
Comment: Hello Alicia,
Thanks for the inuit PC. Im might be wrong, but i include inuit in native american indians. I went to the museum in DC and im sure there was stuff in there that was inuit.
Response: Oh that's good to know! I did get a little bit confused as I know there are some Inuit from Canada as well. The art is certainly very interesting. Thank you for the heart!
Comment: Thanks so much for the note and fun papers!
Somehow I don't think we've swapped before in the Reading and Writing group, but I'm so glad we did this time! I do lots of swaps in the group, and this is really the first time I've found someone with similar reading tastes to me (classics, literary fiction, down to read the postmodern and experimental). I was so excited to see that, without exception, everything you listed I've read or have on my TBR, or have now added to my TBR because it sounds so good.
I friended you on Goodreads too. :)
Response: Sorry for the late response! I really appreciate the lovely comment (and the heart!) - I'm so excited to hear that we have similar reading tastes! I also rarely come across people (that I get to interact with, not just lurk around, lol) who like to read such things, especially the weirder/darker stuff. I accepted your friends invite and have been lurking your profile - your read list is making me want to up my game, haha!
Comment: I so enjoyed reading your card about Christmas ghost stories (and apologies for a bit of a late rating)!
I will have a look for the story you read - I really enjoyed reading a ghost story at Christmas and plan to make it a tradition
Tho I too have never read Dickens’ Christmas Carol!
The Muppets movie version I have seen before and was what I watched and wrote about for the Christmas Carol Swap 😺
I hope your holidays were merry and bright and that your 2022 is off to a fantastic start 💗
Response: I think I've seen the Muppets version a long time ago, my memory is pretty bad so I didn't feel confident that I had enough to say about it in a letter, haha. Maybe next year! I hope you had a lovely festive holiday too, and that your 2022 is also going brilliantly! Thank you for the heart!
Comment: Thank you for the fun Christmas card!! The sleeve with the extras brought me sooo much joy :)
I believe the letter had quite the wild journey before it reached me, the envelope was really tattered and ripped open at the edges… post offices didn’t treat it very nicely :(
Response: You're very welcome, thank you for the heart! I'm sorry to hear that it had a rough time getting there, though :( I wonder if it's because it wasn't quite flat? I'll try to make it a bit more post-office proof next time, hehe.
Comment: 😍🥰😭🥺💗💖 Aliciaaaaaa 😍 thank you!! What a beautiful journal!! I hope mine is not getting rained on in these storms right now 😅 even though it's not on your level omg the BINDING 🤯😍 thank you for your generous tuck ins and a long letter. I have already made some dot points for my next letter to you, I think I will do a messy undecorated letter next time so it's easier to get all my thoughts out, and then I'll add the pretty stuff seperate 😂✍️💐✨
Response: 😍😍💖💖you always leave the loveliest comments that truly make me smile, thank you Lena! Oh gosh, the binding I think is something I really need to work on, lol, I appreciate you being so nice about it! Your journal made it to me safely and I am just about to rate you after I finish this, sorry for the delay! Thanks also for reading all my totally random rambling. I always think of things to say after the fact, maybe next time I'll actually get everything in and it will make sense too, haha.
Comment: Thank you so much for the great recommendation. I will definitely check them out. I apologize for such a late rating -- sadly, your letter was put in my purse when I received it, then I switched purses and forgot to grab it. I just stumbled upon it yesterday. Please forgive!
Response: No problem at all, I can relate to that, ha. Thank you for the heart :)
Comment: Loved your letter and the beautiful pocket card and ephemera! I related to your letter -especially the messy desk!- and I'll respond in my journal letter (which is still going to be late, probably in the new year 😅)
Response: Thank you my dear <3 All good, I've been so late with so many of my other swaps, and just late to respond in general! It's a hectic season I think!
Comment: I love everything about this swap :) the kitty on the card, the special teas, the goodies! So festive and DO fun! Sorry for the late rating but I saved it to open when I was in the Christmas spirit 😂 merry Christmas 🎄☃️💖
Response: Thank you Lena <3 Not a late rating at all, I hope you had a great Christmas!
Comment: I love Kira so much!! I really get the feeling that she's a cross between you and me! I love that you included their cat on the bed too 😍
Response: Hahah yes, honestly I had so much trouble thinking of an original character so it was like low key real life plagiarism 😂 but I'm glad you like them. And I reckon cat people are the best people 😉
Comment: I love 💜 the art folder that arrived today!! It is so clever and I love the Japanese paper, bookmarker, and goodies you tucked in!! So much fun with the side pockets. I've never seen one like it and now I will make my own - wow, thanks for the inspiration!! I hope we are partners again!! xxMuggleMom
Response: Ohh, thank you for such a lovely comment and the heart! I had fun making it, although it was a bit challenging as I think I made it too narrow haha. But I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Comment: Your swap arrived! Yay!! Hey, it's something to celebrate in these questionable mailing days. :)
I LOVE "The Haunting of Hill House"! It is one of my top 5 favorite books, without a doubt. I've read, re-read, listened and watched everything to do with it and don't have it memorized YET, but I'm getting there. :) The Netflix adaptation of the story isn't bad, really, it's kind of a combination of the book and the 2 movies made of the book, and when seen from that angle, it isn't bad at all. If you haven't seen the other 2 movies (one in the 1960's that is all black and white with no special effects at all - and scares the socks off of me!!!) and the 1999 version with Liam Nieson and Catherine Zeda Jones, I highly recommend them. Shirley Jackson was a master and didn't get the attention she deserved when she was alive, but people are starting to appreciate her work now. There's another of her books, "We Have Always Lived in the Castle" that was recently made into a Netflix movie and it's not too bad, either.
Anyway, I could go on for DAYS about Jackson's work. :) I'm glad you liked the book. I also liked the way Elanor was described, she seemed to be a real person by the end. (Oh, one more fun fact - Hill House is one of Stephen King's favorite books, too - he was asked to write a screen adaptation in the 1990's, but the project was scrapped. He took his manuscript and developed it into Rose Red, which was a made for TV movie here in the US. If you can find it... IT's SOOOO good!!! He then wrote a prequel, The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer, which is amazing as well.) I'm a 'slight' fan, as you can see ... :) Thanks for sharing your books! :)
Response: Wow, Cindi, thank you so much for such a detailed rating (and the heart too)! I have met a few people on here who enjoy The Haunting of Hill House/Shirley Jackson's works, but you must be the biggest fan so far :D
I haven't seen the movie adaptations, I vaguely remember the 1999 version being on TV but I was a bit of a chicken as a kid so I never watched it properly, haha. I will definitely give both versions a go, now.
I really enjoyed 'We Have Always Lived in the Castle' and really want to name my next cat Merricat, haha. (Also as I don't have human children, only fur children, lol). I'll have to look for those Stephen King works too, I've never heard of them. I really enjoy adaptations of his works, if anything I sometimes feel they work better on screen than in the written word, but I can't say why I think that exactly!
I can't remember if I mentioned this in the letter, probably not, but I recommend the book 'Shirley' by Susan Scarf Merrell, which is a fictionalised account of Jackson's life, as well as the movie adaptation starring Elisabeth Moss. I don't really know that they're that accurate as biographies, but in terms of exploring the atmosphere of her work and her interests, I think they're spot on. Thank you again!
Comment: THANKYOU for the awesome pockets you made - way better than the plastic ones! And thanks for all the great Halloween goodies inside!
Response: Thank you so much for your understanding about this swap, yet again! I feel like I keep messing up with your swaps, I'm sorry about that! I appreciate you being so accommodating, thanks for the heart <3
Comment: As always this is a showstopper swap from you 😍 i love swapping with you so much and reading your letters gives me all the warm feelings of sipping tea with an old friend but without the social anxiety of actually seeing a friend face to face 😅💞
Response: And as always, you are so sweet and lovely <3 I love swapping with you too, it's so much fun! And I totally get you about the social anxiety. Esp post-lockdown I'm re-learning how to socialise with people (and I was never great at it anyway, lol).
Comment: Thank you for your book list for September. You've had some I threshing reads for sure. High fidelity is a great movie, but the book was a challenge to get through.
Her body and other parties sounds like the kind of book I might try listening to. I tend to listen to this style of book so I can argue with them out loud. ;-)
Response: Hi Natalie! I hope you enjoy Her Body and Other Parties if you end up listening to it, I'd be curious to know what you think of it! I've heard good things about the High Fidelity movie, I have a feeling I might enjoy it more than the book too. Thank you for the heart :)
Comment: Wow, I put both books on my TBR list. Both sound extremely interesting and on opposite sides of the reading list. I love listening to true crime podcasts and I think I heard some thing about the Scottish killer - I'll have to check it out. Thanks for joining the swap! xxMuggleMom
Response: Oh that's great, I hope you enjoy them (well, enjoy is maybe not the right word considering the subject matter - perhaps better to say I hope that you get something out of reading them!). The TV show 'Des' with David Tennant is also quite good. Thank you for the heart!
Comment: Thank you so much for your letter! I enjoyed reading about your book - horror is definitely not a genre i normally look into so it was nice for a change!! I don't think it matters if you're "qualified" to talk about books or not lol. Also this arrived pretty fast!! my mail has been crazy slow lately so it's nice. All the best :)
Response: Thank you for the heart! I'm really glad you enjoyed reading it. It is hard to express my thoughts about things sometimes, I think I need to take notes whilst I read or something. And yeah, you're right, I probably shouldn't get hung up on whether I am qualified to talk about a book, haha.
That's good! Mail is so unpredictable these days. Take care!
Comment: Thanks for sharng. We do get decorate for Halloween.Love carving pumpkins etc. My friend and two of her children were born in October. So she decorates her house for Halloween like we decorate for Christmas. Every room is spooky. She also wears a costume on Halloween to surprise the trick or treaters when they come to her door. They really have fun with it. Any way.You have a nice day. bearnbabs
Response: Thank you for the heart! I would love to be able to do that one day, it seems like such a fun holiday to celebrate :D
Comment: Holy sh*t Alicia 😍🤯😍 what a cool swap!!! I think it's funny how we both sewed a pouch, that's so cute. I cannot wait to swap with you again if you're keen. I can send you some poems and we can talk more about Shirley Jackson (once I watch the biopic you recommended) 💖💌👾🪴☄️
Response: Yay! I'm really glad you liked it! Haha yes I noticed that too, I meant to mention in the letter and then forgot (it was such a rambling letter so prob for the best, lol). Your sewing is a lot neater though, I really liked your pouch 😍Honestly I wish I had done more with the swap, I really want to try to make different types of folders/tags/etc next time. Def keen to read poetry and talk about Shirley Jackson :D
Comment: Wow! you did great on the book marks! Very sturdy. I love the peace one. ANd thanks for the stickers. Crafting is fun and you will love it more and more! I too love to read, I was an only child. My house is full of tbr books!LOL I enjoyed reading of your love of books. Happy Reading and swapping!
Response: Thank you for the kind words, I was a bit worried about them but I'm glad you liked them! Haha it's good to hear that you also have a house of unread books! Thank you for the lovely message and the heart :)
Comment: Hi Alicia! The puppy pc is so dang cute - thank you! When I was much younger, I enjoyed horror books/movies but as I got older and realized these things can (and maybe are) really happening, I have stopped reading them - too scary for me! Yep, I am a wimp reader but don't tell anyone! LOL! All the best! Hugs, Happy Reading, and Swapping! ;)
Response: Haha, I can relate actually, although I still love horror media, I don't think I have the 'tolerance' that I did when I was younger. I agree, it's not nice to think about the real things that could be happening. Thanks very much for the lovely message and the heart :)
Comment: Hi Alicia, your letter arrived today and I enjoyed reading it. Thank you for introducing a creature to me of which I had not heard of before. I am into mythology and so I found the correlations with mythological creatures to be interesting. As a child I was afraid of moths but many moths are actually beautiful creatures. Thank you also for the birdie goodies
Response: You are very welcome! Yes, I agree, moths can be very beautiful, even though they often get overlooked for butterflies. And mythology is very interesting indeed, I keep meaning to do more research about it. Thank you for the heart!
Comment: Sounds really interesting. I like reading horror fiction but find very few books that actually scare me (still like to read it tho) and I LOVE horror movies. Thanks for the lovely cat PC:-)
Response: I think it's hard to find horror that is scary in fiction because it can be not quite as immersive as movies or games, in some ways. I would love to hear your recommendations one day! Thanks for the heart :)
Comment: Thank you for the beautiful maxim postcard. It is the first one I've received and I absolutely love it! I love the weird facts that you shared, too! The Cleopatra one is weird and the PM one is odd in a funny way. :) Thank you for making my day much brighter!
Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed the card and the facts! It was educational for me to look up trivia I didn't know, haha. Thanks for the heart :)
Comment: Thank you for the AMAZING BAT postcard! I love bats so much and I adore it. Thank you for sharing about "birth spirits" as well. It sounds like they would have some really interesting folklore that I will look up. Hope you're doing well! :)
Response: Thank you for the rating and the kind words! I'm really glad you enjoyed it, it's nice to be able to send cards that match people's interests! Yes, there is definitely some interesting folklore in that part of the world! Hope you are well too :)
Comment: Thank you for the beautiful postcard and the information. I love all whales. Your decorating was great and happy! The fact you sent from Australia was a wonderful bonus surprise. I will keep this with my collection always.
Response: What a lovely comment, thank you so much for the kind words and generous rating :) I had a lot of fun decorating so I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Comment: Oh my GOODNESS I LOVE this mail - it's so special! I would love to swap with you again soon and send you some extra extra goodies especially since you made a much more stuffed-full creative pouch of vintage goodies than what I came up with 🙈 thank you!!
Response: Thank you for the very generous and kind rating! I'd love to do another swap with you again at some point, it was a lot of fun! And your swap was very generous also, I really enjoyed (and the fact that it actually can fit in a journal like a pocket tag, unlike mine, lol). I wish there were more of us active here, whenever I do chonky crafts like that it's so much more economical to swap domestically.
Comment: Hi Alicia, I am so terribly sorry to rate so late, everything has just sort of pulled me away from swap-bot lately. Frist and foremost, DAMNNNN you got talent!!!! I loved how you created this piece and everything about it was spectacular as hell. Secondly, I LOVED ALL THE INFO you included and all the little bits and pieces were just the best touch to it! Thirdly, THANK YOU for all the cute extras you added to it as well, because I loved the goodies you sent me (and I've already used them all up). So thank you thank you! Everything was awesome and beautiful and I can tell you put tons of work into it! I hope to swap again with you sometime in the future! Stay safe and keep your hopes up x
Response: Hi Jess, totally understandable, I hope you are keeping well and safe in these crazy conditions lately. Thank you so much for such kind words about my swap, I'm really flattered <3 I did really enjoy putting it together even though at the end I was like 'hmm, I don't think that's actually a zine', lol. Anyway I'm really glad you enjoyed it and the goodies. Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely rating, and hope to see you around on swap-bot again in the future :)
Comment: Thanks for the card--I'm glad I'm not the only one who couldn't tell which way was up. I like the animal stickers--I watch the tv series "The Zoo" which has a lot of programs in Australia.
Response: Glad you enjoyed it, thank you for the heart! I'll have to check that out, I've never heard of it (not surprising as I don't watch a lot of Aussie TV) but I do love animals :)
Comment: Thank you so much for the mail and all of the goodies! Sorry it took me so long to rate. I'm currently working on catching up with all the mail I received while in hospital but I'll try to send you a reply as soon as I can! 😊
Response: You're super welcome, thank you for the rating and heart I hope you're feeling better now. Please don't worry too much about replies or anything, your health is 100% the most important thing!
Comment: Thank you so much for the letter, I got super exited when you mentioned the school! The pod cast I listen to had talked about it 🤓 and thank you very much for taking the time to type your letter it really helped a lot. I wish I could read more, your letter was amazing and fun to read. Thank you.
Response: Thank you very much for the rating + heart :) Oh that's awesome, I had never heard of the school incident before I started researching for this letter, I'll have to look up that podcast!
I wish I was good at drawing like you so I could have done some fun pictures in my letter, but I'm glad you enjoyed it anyway :D
Comment: Dear Alicia, thank you very, very much for your wonderful and beautiful decorated PC filled with several book recommodations. That's so awesome and I'm really curious about all of them! I will for sure try them out, so thank you very much! ^.^
Have a great day!
Response: Hi Maxi, thank you very much for the heart! I hope you do enjoy the books if you get a chance to read them, you seem to read a lot so I appreciated the chance to add to your TBR, haha. Hope you have a nice day too!
Comment: Your swap info had come off the envelope. It must have been a rough trip! Thank you for the postcards. I'm interested that you read collections; I've only ever read one by Neil Gaiman. Maybe I should give them another shot. The microfiction sounds interesting.
Response: Oh no! Thanks for letting me know, I'll have to try and make it more durable in future.
They can be hit or miss, but I sometimes like them in between novels when I feel I don't have the attention span to commit to something longer. Happy reading :)
Comment: Thank you for the nice card. :) I remember the Beatrix Potter books, too. I'm not sure how many I really read when I was little, but my daughter liked the books too, so I read many - if not all - of them to her when she was little. I think I remember the artwork more than the overall stories, because it seemed to really bring the animals to life. Maybe I should go back and re-read a few. :)
Response: You're welcome! Yes, it's amazing when you think about how long those books have remained popular and in print across the generations. The illustrations are wonderful. I hope you enjoy revisiting them if you do get a chance to :) Thanks for the heart <3
Comment: I thoroughly enjoyed your journal! Thanks for the extras as well, especially the cool stamps. Yours is the first junk journal I've seen IRL and it inspired me to try again after the first one I ever made (for this swap). Oh! And the vintage book pages are perfect!!
Response: Oh I'm really glad you enjoyed it and am flattered that you found it inspiring! I had a lot of fun putting it together, I think it forced me to be creative in a way I haven't been for a while. I hope you have fun putting together more journals :D
Comment: Thank you Alicia for the most wonderful envelope full of sunshine! I love everything you sent The bunny postcard is just adorable. I put it where I can see it everyday. Thank you for making this such a special swap for me.
Response: You are so welcome Joy :) I'm really glad you enjoyed it all and am really touched that you have put the bunny postcard somewhere special. I had a lot of fun putting it together!
Comment: Thank you for showing me how a "full postcard" is properly done!
The card I sent was sorely lacking compared to yours.
Response: You're welcome, although I'm sure there's not any 'proper' way to do it and I bet your recipient loved yours just the same! I just like to get as much onto a postcard as possible anyway because of the international postage costs haha ;)
Comment: Your package just arrived, and wow, what a treat!! You sent me such a great assortment of stationery. The letterpress cards are gorgeous, and my sister loves koalas, so I'll be sending that card to her. Everything you sent is right up my alley, really well chosen. Thank you so much!!!
Response: Yay! I'm so pleased it arrived there safely and that you liked the things in it! You are very welcome :)
