I just today (10 Feb.) found your note card and Christmas Tree ATC, It is beautiful an will definitely join my favorites Christmas ATCs. Thank you so much and for your patience in waiting so long for this rating. My broken hip is healing well, and I am walking with full weight on that leg finally. I keep and walker or cane handy just to be sure. If I've been sitting too long, I have to be patient as all the joints settle into their places and stop hurting. I do so hate RA and fibromyalgia. But my arts/crafts hobby really helps me lose my pain by getting busy on a project. So many of my Swapping friends are in similar conditions; they also use their art as a means to forget / ignore the pain at least for a while. Again, thanks for your patience. They card and ATC were in the stack of holiday cards received. I'm guessing hubby accidentally put it their, not recognizing the name on the card. I will be sending you a bit of a Happy Mail to enjoy and to make up for this late rating! PeggyO

Comment: Thanks for a great ATC, Linda! Isn't patterned paper sometimes a wonderful beginning for an ATC--it has to be not too intense and the stamp or ephemera, etc. has to be relatively simple. Sometimes I use the little rule about combining patterns in home decor or clothing---one dominant/ large pattern and then add on small design picking up one or more colors from the dominate patterned fabric. That helps me choose the right stamp just as you did with your muted background paper. That's why we both like it so much--at least it's the why for me. I was afraid to mix patterns in my house or in my clothes for a long time; once I read that explanation and saw some examples explaining the rule, I have been having a grand time trying mixes I'd never have risked 10 years ago! Comment: BEAUTIFUL card! Is it a stamped image? Also I had no idea that you could ask the mail man to hand cancel stamps!
Response: Thank you for the kind words. I used 3 different stamps to make the scene. And, yes, you can request the PO hand cancel the stamps but you have to pay an additional 20 cents for it. I usually take my swaps to the PO and watch while they hand cancel them. Each envelope needs 66 cents on it, but I feel it is worth it for the peace of mind it gives me. Railways have always been special to me - my brother was a British Railway Police Officer - served in many areas including on the Royal train with Queen Elizabeth ll; my nephew is a current serving officer in the same force. I had many ancestors who 'worked on the railways' and my Grandad often took me train spotting. Now I have the local trains including steam trains pass by my house all the time!
Response: I am so glad you liked the ATC--I thought the trains were very "steampunk". And I particularly like steam trains, too. Every few years we have a Steamfest in a National park here in northeast Ohio. They bring ina steam locomotive and run it on vintage tracks in the park I have several photos I took of the train. Comment: OOh I like your Timmy ATC. The background is really pretty, how did you get that effect with the inks? I am super jealous of your embossing folder too. This was such a fun swap.
Response: I am so glad you liked my atc. To get that ink effect, I rubbed the distress ink pads--blue denim and peeled paint --on the craft sheet, sprayed them with water in the mini mister and then dragged the paper through the ink. After the first inks dried, I rubbed the fired brick ink pad on the craft sheet, sprayed it with water and just dipped the paper in it quickly so it got the red splotches. Then I stamped on it. I used the embossing folder on the paper before I inked the paper. And, yes, that embossing folder is really, really great--I want to use it on everything. Thanks for rating and for the heart.

Response: Thank you for the compliments. AMLP is the yahoo group artistamp mailing list and they will "issue" you an identifying number to include on your artistamps, if you wish. You don't have to, of course. I have just recently started into bookmaking and wanted to practice my pamphlet stitch--I was very pleased with how it turned out. And it is super easy.
